Thank god, I was really worried about posting that post. It doesn't sound too full of shit? Not sure if I put it out the right way. And maybe the content's wrong to begin with. Difficult to make any argument with a mind full of doubt.
i remember the first 100 pages being horrible. "It" is the same way. But you get past that first 100 or maybe 150 pages, and it is great.
a ton of truth,
"Show me a man or a woman alone and I'll show you a saint. Give me two and they'll fall in love. Give me three and they'll invent the charming thing we call 'society'. Give me four and they'll build a pyramid. Give me five and they'll make one an outcast. Give me six and they'll reinvent prejudice. Give me seven and in seven years they'll reinvent warfare. Man may have been made in the image of God, but human society was made in the image of His opposite number, and is always trying to get back home." - Glen Bateman
also there is a whole chapter of these scenarios in which people die because they havent wrapped their brains around the paradigm change. Little sub stories that seem very plausable.
Okay, I can't stop myself any longer! I apologize now.
Your icon...is he constipated? He does seem to be working awfully hard on producing rain there. We should encourage your little cloud friend to eat more fiber...
Thanks, I'm reading the book of Chuang Tzu (with those exact translators!). Haven't heard of the other so I'll check it out. I have the Tao of physics but not knowing physics very well, I'm afraid it may go over my head :-) I read the Tao of Pooh once some time ago but it didn't really stick in my head.
Yes, it seemed to me that it was very like the state of being an infant. One has no real "sense of Self" The word, " I " suddenly becomes a meaningless word and the word, " Me" encompasses all ....
One way to describe it is, that it is the polar opposite of the "Self-centered" state of consciousness...
OH AHA! lol
I was going to say that human emotions can not be trusted and it seems to me that often the second type of wrong can be turned into the first type mentioned if logic is applied and the emotional influence removed...... I umm.. EEEEP
Ok, no more thread highjacking. I think I also failed to vocalize a distinction that I perceive between.. hmm. wrong as in " This is the wrong course of action for me to take" and wrong as "This feels wrong but it is the correct action to take" Does that make sense? There are 2 wrongs I'm talking about here and I'm trying to separate them more cleanly. Also, human emotions can not be trusted and so with all this discussion......whoa.. just lost that thought. lol
I have duel citizenship. I went to high school in the states, but I'm living back in Canada now. You live in seattle right? We're only about a 3 hour drive from each other.
yes it is, I enjoy it quite a bit here, but i couldn't help noticing when I came to your profile to reply that there is snow....so are you in Maine? or Oregon? because we don't get much snow in Oregon(sadly)
I knew what you meant! lol
I edited my post accordingly.
You were using Baltimore as the means of measurement. As.. the.. standard?
Using city-life-force buckets to measure jedi power would depend greatly on whether or not city-life-force is the same life-force in jedi.
If not it would be like trying to use a scale to measure both the weight of something and then the amount of air/space within a box.
You are right. It may be important. I should probably figure this out.
Firstly, you wouldn't measure life force with a yardstick. I mean... .. just no. Not even a figurative stick.
You would need something related to measurement of volume.. like... buckets or swimming pools.
That is NOT how one eats oreos! You put the whole oreo in your mouth and take a swig of milk so the whole cookie gets all soft and wonderful all over all at the same time and you spare your fingers! This is rather difficult for me though since I have a small mouth.
Oh.. your commercial idea is good. *nods*
i have only seen the Big Lebowski enough to know that someone peed on a carpet?
Minneapolis is legit, the only better midwestern city is Chicago. I love both, but Chicago has a much cooler history and culture. Minneapolis is really growing as of late though, it'd be a fun place to live for sure.
Minneapolis/St. Paul is great. Everyone from Duluth (at least youthfully speaking) tries to move to 'the cities', referring to Minneapolis/St. Paul. My older sister and brother both have lived in the suburbs of Minneapolis my entire life, so I've been there quite a bit. I'd much rather be there than here in Duluth. What's your internship for? Do you have a BA? If so, in what!? I'm still a semester off from a BA but only in general studies, and I'm heavily contemplating going back to school, I just don't know what to major in or what to pursue... which sucks.
Ha! I love having weird, long, trips that take way longer than they should. I think it's because I generally secretly hope I never actually reach my destination.
During that time I ended up fighting my way through all the crazy hip deep snow with my little compact car in order to shuttle everybody up to Portland because I'm the only one who knows how to drive in snow. I think I spent most of that trip driving sideways with the passengers screaming. Epic.
Yeah, I should have learned my lesson the first time, but alas Blob returned when I started posting. Not saying I lured him back; my point is that I had already subscribed to a Blob-free thread, then Blob appears. What I'm supposed to leave? Naw-uh. I was here first.
You posted that thread, barely contributed to the awesome discussion that blossomed from it, then came back abruptly after Blob and I had a small flamewar, and then, as if to stretch after taking a long nap, said that, and I was seriously dying.
I've been your secret best friend ever since then.
Those were all of my cheerleader jokes and punchline sfx. Those are my meds.
Anyway, I was just paying you back for this which had me laughing for days: "Yeah, I agree with the groupthink against Blob. I usually just skip his posts entirely, unless someone else quotes him. Also his prose is terrible."
