I know exactly what you mean about all the assumptions people make of us, and how most don't understand the complexity of our internal world. That often we find it so much more interesting than the external, how we can get lost in it and/or would much rather be there. How we appear to be doing little or nothing only because no one can see what's going on inside. How the things that fascinate us are not simply the result of too much thinking. I think it's only really possible for people of the same type to understand each other, and even then, there are still differences.
