... is philosophy & faith 1 forum when they have such a different approach?

I have no objections but I was just wondering.

Philosophy works with premisses (a proposition upon which an argument is based or from which a conclusion is drawn) while faith is dogmatic (set of beliefs or doctrines that are established as undoubtedly in truth) when it tries to be logical.

PS I have no preference or sth. both are interesting in studying how the human psyche orders its 'reality'.

They both deal with spiritual / metaphysical themes. I think they have an interesting relationship, sometimes it really seems like you can't discuss one without discussing the other.

We're rationals. It's compatible. Also, both try to answer the same questions... The approach to these answers is simply diffrent.

This subforum used to have a different title. The reason the current system works is that is all about belief systems. Both philosophy and religion are systems of beliefs, so there really is not that much difference between the two. Religion is noted for ceremony and ritual and yet somehow academic ceremonies and rituals don't qualify as religious events (?)

Yep, that makes sense how you put it. The subject they study, searching for some sort of reasoning, trying to order reality, existence as they perceive it.

What I prefer in philosophy is the tentative character. Is that a proper English word? Like probing. And logic.
The stronghold of faith is the human aspect. It is very recognizable. Deals with human fears, feelings and soothes. And it even gives agression and bloodthurst a place. (the dark human side & the warm human side)

I agree with a hint of what you are saying. Premisses are kind of 'beliefs'... not totally because if premisses are proven wrong the 'house' falls and philosophers do not need to go to war for revenging stuff ... they are not 'beliefs' really but well it is more like the bits that philosophy does not explain. The reasoning is also very different.

And for academic rituals, well ... you could call all rituals religious then. Even blowing birthdaycandles.
Science has got its ways, agreements how to approach data and make deductions. That can be rigid in a way. But it shifts with new research and better ways. You need agreements otherwise it would just be a madhouse.
