Shakespeare RomCom or Tragedy?

I have an opportunity to see a play by Shakespeare in a very nice outdoor theater designed to be similar but larger than the traditional Globe theater. The play company also has a nice indoor theater with excellent acoustics. I'm trying to decide which play to see.

On offer this year is the usual RomCom selection of Taming of the Shrew and Midsummer Night's Dream. They are also doing the slightly less well known Cymbaline and the classic King Lear.

I'm not a big fan of Shakespeare's RomComs but those are what's playing in the outdoor theater. *sigh* King Lear is generally my favorite of this grouping but mostly just for the Fool.

I can't decide which one to go with. :storks:

Other Topics For Discussion:

1. Elizabethans and Cross Dressing Humor: Is Tyler Perry re-imagining the classic Elizabethan tradition for a new audience?

2. No Hope for Present Day Authors: Shakespeare reduced to mind numbing similarity in his own works of comedy by popular demand.

3. King Lear's Fool: Would anyone have listened if he'd worn a Power Suit instead?

I saw Midsummer performed, as well as Macbeth. I would go with a tragedy, I don't know much about Cymbaline other than the basic idea, but I think it would be interesting to see performed.

Wow. That kind of made my day. "To be or not to be...not to be".

Go for the tragedy - you know you want to.

I'm too slow. King Lear is sold out though I'm not above hanging around with a coffee and pocket full of cash in hopes of grabbing a scalped ticket.

I will be seeing Midsummer and randomly A Streetcar Named Desire. There's nothing quite like an angry Polish man rampaging through a sweaty New Orleans night.
