This part I understand and I feel really foolish for not getting it. I guess I never had to squint and I assumed you're getting these riddles from some old-timey source.

The first part makes sense, the second part seems a bit redundant, the third part totally threw me off course, even now with the answer I don't get it.

The only insects that croon as far as I know are cicadas and crickets.
