I don't know about you but I hate photographs, whenever my parents make me go with them to some new place they always take a shit load of photographs and I have to be in all of them and I have to be posing in all of them and I have to smile in all of them. There's no such thing as action pictures in this family. So basically every two minutes I'm forced to go stand somewhere to take a photo and it pretty much absolutely ruins whatever already barely tolerable place they decided to take me to. (They usually don't take me anywhere interesting in my opinion.) I really don't understand the whole idea that someone must document their lives with a photo camera, isn't enjoying the experience much more important than documenting the thing? Isn't that what your memory is for? Of course, if they always take so many photos of everything then it's not surprising that they can't remember where they were since they were too busy taking photos to pay attention where they were. Then they can make the excuse that they take pictures because their memories are bad. It reminds me of those people in class that take very detailed notes but then can't remember a thing that they wrote down a minute ago because they were so focused on writing they couldn't remember the content. I on the other hand would just look and listen and remember everything the first time. I never had to study any notes to get good grades. Also, what's with the whole smiling thing? Why must we always smile in photographs if we hardly ever smile in real life? It's just so darn fake it's sickening. I choose not to smile in photographs because that's who I am, but people think I'm being rude or something.

That certainly sucks and I agree absolutely with everything you said.

Except for your careless use of words (and lack of paragraph separation ). That's just a certain kind of photograph, and there are many ways one can take photographs that does not at all involve what you've talked about, so saying "I hate photographs" is a rather extreme statement. This is of course nit-picky and pedantic, but I feel compelled to point it out.

People are always surprised at my travel photos because there's rarely any people in them, and they're usually of much superior quality, capturing details or moods nobody even noticed. And everyone else i was in the trip with have the same identical and lame photos, because they don't take photography seriously... nor the trip, nor the place. It's clearly more important to be able to tell/show others "hey, I was in x place" rather than actually experiencing what x is

Yea, I know that was a bad wall of text right there. I'll try not to. I'm not sure what the lack of responses means... I tried searching for photographs and I didn't find anything so this should be a new topic, I think.

I actually like your way of taking photos, if I really wanted to take a photo of some place that's what I would do as well. I would take a picture of the place, not the people I'm with.

It's clearly more important to be able to tell/show others "hey, I was in x place" rather than actually experiencing what x is

That's pretty sad.

I've been experimenting with various ways of photographing. On the one hand I have a top drawer DSLR with all the goodies; I could run a professional studio with this rig. At the other hand I have copious device cameras, and I've contributed to a Kickstarter project for a device which continuously and inconspicuously records pictures through the day. With the big rig I enjoy the process of taking a photo (Ti&Ne&Si&Fe in one package it seems) more than enjoying a photo (Se?). The people around me generally hate the big camera. The small cameras are much better for getting shots of people. I agree with your assessment of posed shots; I rarely do them. What is irksome is that when I take pictures of other peoples kids, when they see me with a camera they automatically smile or do a pose. Throws me off, I tell them to act natural and ignore me, but they're so used to their (Sensor) parents who want them to ape for the camera. I do believe the posed shots are more of a Sensor thing, they like the standard fare more than we do.

Oh no, my parents might be ESFJs!

(No, really. It would explain why we're rarely on the same page mentally.)
