Is this considered low EQ?

I've been told that I have low EQ because that's what happens when you have a high IQ. It's a weak argument but I'm certain the other party just wanted to sugarcoat his words.

However, many times, I feel that I understand what others want to hear; I just do not care enough. I may know that the response he is seeking is A, but still choose to reply with B because I do not care enough to reply with anything other than "I see". I do feel that I understand most social situations, how the other person feels about me etc., but I don't value it enough to put in effort. So, does it seem like I have a lower than average EQ? I don't have the best understanding of what defines the different levels of EQ. Thank you.

I too should have low EQ as aasperger. But really its a label, meant to control people.

I have high EQ but low cognitive empathy. I don't know what a person will do in a situation, I just know if they are a nice person and I can work with them. My EQ is more intuitive that way. I can just tell when a person is wrong or right deep down in my soul.

I think I have the potential for "EQ" just that in a deep level I don't care for it, therefore use it less and have it far less trained than the average person. When I want I can sometimes use it effectively (using all the T N F tools)
About the IQ, I think there some kind of people with a way of thinking(mtbi) that have as much social skilled as they are smart.

imo, sounds like you have potential for EQ, if you only cared to develop and use it.

the idea of cognitive empathy that anime kitty mentioned.

having the potential and implementing the capacity seem to be two distinct concepts at a certain level of analysis

Although I agree they are more or less right, the idea of intelligently dealing with people is still pretty important. A manager that knows how to intelligently understand their workers and provide what fosters a positive work environment is vastly superior to one that thinks fighting about everything and getting what you want is what it takes to lead.

Course, if you aren't very smart to begin with, it's probably going to be hard for someone to do that. So yeah, EQ is kind of a moot point I guess.

Probably.

If you're not interested in playing the game, you're probably a whole lot less practiced at both the action and perception of it.

Sociality is largely intuitive, and intuition is sub-conscious and developed through exposure. If you have no interest, and don't act in a way conducive to socialisation, chances are you've not developed these skills. This is particularly likely if people are actively pointing out you've got low IQ, though yes, the notion that high IQ = low EQ is bullshit incarnate.

Also, the way you control your responses "I see", seems more like a social posture than low EQ (mixed messages I know). Sometimes denying people the affirmation or w/e they're seeking is the only recourse left to someone seeking solace from predictable scripted conversation. I personally can't stand being drawn into someone else's wankery.

Its better to just do your own thing anyways. You can have just as much fun seeing if people understand your weirdness than playing the game.
