I find that the best way to figure something out is to let it just sit in the back of my mind and wait for my brain to supply the answer. Although, i do read that INTPs have laser like focus, although I usually cant get in the zone, whether is be because of my selective ADD or the lack of effort Im used to putting forth. Is anyone else like this?

also this is my first thread and if this isnt the place to put a discussion like this, tell me, and point me in the right direction.

Not sure how this relates to type at all but for me it's "laser like focus" at the expense of volition. In other words, i'm highly capable of seeing patterns but very poor at controlling attention. This also means a great peak learning ability but quite a poor average. It leads to accumulating plenty of knowledge and insight that's absolutely useless and worthless beyond the realm of personal understanding, however true and well-computed.

Does it seem like we're talking about the same thing here?

yes we are definitely talking about the same thing. I do very much identify with the poor average and very high peak ability. Lately I have tried to focus but whenever I am successful I realize Im successful, and that breaks my focus. I have to be extremely engaged in whatever is at hand, or I will do poorly. Sadly, this also applies to school and I would like to be able to fix it.

welcome to the forum ❤

same here. "understanding" is always a very slow and gradual process for me, because i rarely, if ever, commit myself to one thing at a time. i easily get distracted or loose interest.
i relate a lot with what you call "selective ADD", i find it difficult to keep flow of thoughts under control...to the point where i even have trouble staying focused on the road while driving. so, like you, i just let things sit at the back of my mind and then when i accumulate information over the years, things will slowly start to click.

i wish i had "laser like focus" *sigh*

I have the laser focus, but it is so overwhelming and intense, that I keep trying to distract myself (selective ADD) from getting in that focus.
