My name is Steven Gerrard.

Hello Pikachu.

I start a new job on monday and I'm terrified.

I have a feeling this is gunna suck.

It's 12 bucks an hour in my uncle by law's woodshop. I think I'll just be sitting around and making people uncomfortable and maybe moving stuff. Unskilled labour.

I'm gunna be exhausted at the end of everyday. If it's like 8 hours X 12 dollars x 5 days a week (10 total) I should have 960 dollars Which is enough to hitchhike to Montreal to go visit a friend and drink and smoke and try and get a band together, and play the rugged transient.

Any advice guys? I'm 19 in February. Maybe I'll get a reference letter too?

It could be worse. You could have my training job which is 5 days per week unpaid...

At 19 I'd have been tempted to spend the rest of my life at 40 hours a week @$12 an hour. For unskilled labor at that? It may only be for 10 days, but I'd definitely be paying attention to what he's doing in order to be able to pay you that much.

So on to more interesting things...

What's the larger point of your coming hedonistic venture?

It's not hedonism.

the larger point is to make music pretty much.

A sense of identity.

I mean really I just imagine and plan music and shows all day. And sing. I'm a singer.

I don't really do the bonegrinding drudgery but I am excited to start...

So of course I need to leave.

What do you do habitat?

Welcome to the forum.

If you are doing it for the money and reference letter only, you may have issues with enduring this job. I suggest you experiment with your attitude and see if that makes a difference. Who knows, you may even enjoy it.

You're probably right.

But I mean not to put this on you-

but is there a real alternative to working for money?

I gotta get away from here or wither away.

I think.

Do you have a a more specific suggestion?

Agreed. That and I generally don't like the idea of living in a constant state of repressing the urge to strangle people.

I'm a wildlife biologist. For the time being I trade stocks and buy out the belongings of the deceased. The longer version of the story is here.

$960 would buy ~4 $33 strike July 19th calls in USO. A tentative target of $38 would result in a ~$1100 total profit.

Do not take ^this as actual investment advice. That's your choice. Please don't sue me, I'm a hobo.

If it closes below $35.07 breakeven, you lose it all.

Moral of the story: You're young. Take some risks and learn some stuff.

Hm, there are probably many alternatives if one is determined enough. But these things take time and patience. I don't think there are any 'easy' solutions, so the only solution is to think about how one could change one's perspective.

Problem 1. You have to get away

-Answer 1a: Is this a really a problem, or is your brain creating a problem?

-Answer 1b: If it is a problem, you must think of means to get away.

-Solution if 1a: Unknown, get creative. You said "You think", so I'm guessing you have some doubts about leaving.

-Solution, if 1b: Money is necessary, therefore a job, even if mundane is necessary unless you want to hitchhike and live like a tramp (and nothing wrong with that, either).

I don't have anything more specific, sorry :/

PS: Have you considered busking?

This might not be healthy, but hearing about how people whose mental health is harder to deal with than mine got by always make me feel better. Like your post Habitat.

Save money, buy a van.

[Edit] Get use to manual labor. Your going to need that to move all your gear.

[Edit 2] Also get an email notification signup thing and for God sake's read the fine print for venue shows. I had some other ideas but can't seem to remember them.
