So.

I'm a first year undergraduate in university at this technology, design, and engineering oriented university and...

I don't like it here.

The only thing that I like is when I have math courses, when I get to talk about math to my professor or when I get to talk to my math professor in general. Now, I must say that I like talking about math to my math professor a lot. It's what gives meaning to my life these days.

So...

I'm thinking of transferring to another university which offers mathematics to do, well, mathematics.

I've enjoyed mathematics for a long time and I really want to be in an environment where I'll spend all my time doing math which is pretty amazing to contemplate right now.

Should I make the move?

I really don't want to jeopardize in any way my relationship with my professor, you see.

Gaah...but I'm really dissatisfied with all the time I spend studying anything other than math.

What do you guys think?

No idea about how your Educational system works but shouldn't the first two years of college life focus on general courses? It is only during the later years when you focus more on your major subjects. So if you transfer to another University then you'll have to face those general courses again.

Maybe worry about the transferability of earned credits to the next university and, very importantly, any rigidly sequenced courses you need for your degree. If either is a problem -- you need eight sequential semesters of one field of study, for instance, or if half the credits you earned won't transfer, you're looking at extending your university years.

Just went through the sequencing experience with my son after a transfer. There's a whole teaching sequence (music teacher) that's one prerequisite after another, in order. To add insult to injury, a new professor refused to do one of courses last summer, which added an entire semester to his load. (And ours.)

That's not the only consideration for you, of course, but it is something to check out before you jump ships.
