The closest to those Satie pieces I know of are what Yann Tierson wrote for Amélie. I rather liked it too and got the piano score and play it now and then.

As a composer Debussy probably comes closest.

A lot of romantic and neo-romantic composition utilizes lovely legato themes. I recommend one of the best known pieces by Sergei Rachmaninoff. Rhapsody on a theme by Paganini op. 43. I recommend the third piano theme as the others are more virtuosic and less calming, though electric and exciting all the same.

I'm personally very fond of the cello as a concert cellist myself studying in Philadelphia.

I would recommend the Camille Saint Saens Cello Concerto in A Minor, The Brahms Sonata for Cello and Piano in E Minor, The First and Third Movements of Chopin's Sonata for Cello and Piano in G Minor,
