I'm in love...

Brink

Its a first person shooter with RPG elements built around tactical, objective-based play. The designers already have one of the most balanced objective-based FPS's around with Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, but this promises to be far superior. Its being published by Bethesda Softworks (makers of Elder Scrolls and Fallout).

Watch the videos on the developers site and let me know what you think.

I'm looking forward to it now, the "smart" button seems to do essentially what the game Mirror's Edge was all about while also having the RPG and real FPS qualities everyone enjoys

There seems to be much to explore. He says the smart button also allows interaction for advanced players instead of canned sequences as shown by jumping over and back up the railing on the other side. Then, shows climbing up and over the scanner. I really don't understand how that was any different. Also, just running and hitting crouch makes you slide in other games. I don't see why the smart button is necessary there. Am I missing something? I guess you just have to play it to feel it instead of watching it. Maybe without hitting the smart button the player would just jump up and down but never grab. This way you aren't grabbing at everything you jump at. I may have answered my own question... bleh.

I had already watched the videos before I saw this thread and yes. I think this game looks amazing. Can't wait to see how it will actually play out.

(I thought the engineer pulling out a turret looked extremely similar to TF2's engineers. "But hey" I thought to myself "TF2's an awesome game, so putting similar elements of an awesome game into your game should add to it's awesomeness.......right?")

I like the smart button idea, anything that adds immersion wins points with me, but the style of game seems very casual, personally I don't think run-&-gun TF2 style gameplay can be called tactical. Ideally I'd have the gameplay be hardcore tactical FPS style (it's easy to die) with the smart button being a means for the player to avoid being pinned down and outmanoeuvred by their enemies.

Indeed, games like Red Orchestra ruined a lot of FPSs for me. Made everything else feel like rambo. However the movement dynamic is interesting.
