People really expected large and popular websites to remain neutral and free from the corrupting influence of petty personal greed and powerful corporate interests? How ridiculous.

Regarding imageboards... I can't imagine any half-decent typology conversation actually taking place in such a medium. But to to each his own.

Some people got upset about a potential incident of grave corruption and then the in-grouping incest in gaming media in general, a few people said something misogynist and it's possible that some troll wrote a twitter death threat, but I wouldn't put it past a sociopath like Sarkeesian to manufacture this herself... yet... still, 1 person.

That media and anita sarkeesian & co declares "gaming culture" and gamergaters and 8channers to be especially horrible, going as far as declaring "the gamer is dead" and stupid overgeneralizing hysteric shit like that, contributing to the overall stigmatization and stereotyping of video game players being "white male misogynist racist basement dweller neckbeards haha pathethic scum //hatehatehate".

And that's when all out commentary field, twitter, forums & youtube war breaks out.

Mainstream media propagates the overgeneralized idea of "who a gamergater is" and "how the gaming community is".

The "toxicity of the gaming community" is being continuously brought up as if generally unbearable and SOMETHING MUST BE DONE RIGHT AWAY (hint hint coercively and top-down) and the ongoing powder keg that is the concerted propaganda effort towards de facto censorship and in the end probably legal censorship of the gaming industry (rather than the encouragement of games one would enjoy), the eradication of freedom on the internet and attacks on anonymity.

Welcome to a "progressive" spin on hitler germany and gamers and channers are the new jews. Enjoy.

^ Thanks, btw. It all seems too ridiculous, considering the diversity of gaming culture. I didn't even know people paid attention to gaming media anyway. They always seemed creepy to me, as if way too enthusiastic about video games in general, like it's a football game or some kind of social event. It's the equivalent of imagining a media engine centered around making books seem like a sports game; that would be weird right? That's how I feel about gaming media.
