I'm curious what you guys think about this movie? From the trailer, it doesn't look too bad for me, but then I am usually disappointed by Shyamalan (is that how you spell it?) movies.

Also as far as I heard, critics hated it, but they think the general population will eat it all up.

Looks like Will Smith is setting his son up for an acting career, which I like, with training like that from such a young age we can expect great things to come, assuming it dosen't all go to his head, but Will worked his way up the hard way so I think he'll be mindful of that.

This may be why the critics hate the movie, it wasn't made to tell the story, it was made to showcase the acting skills of Will's son, and from the trailer it looks like he did a great job, but personally I don't watch movies for the acting, I want a story.

Actually, all the reviews pretty much bashed the kid as well. His opening narration was called by many to be unintelligible, and the movie didn't seem to play to either of the actors' strengths. (It must be tough as a kid actor with two parents who are famous actors to figure out what to do with his life.) The word is that Shyamalan made a pretty unremarkable picture in the director chair.

They didn't even release the reviews until yesterday, which was a pretty terrible sign. It'll be interesting to see the box office results on Monday.

I don't plan to spend $10-15 in the theater for it, but I'm likely to Redbox it for $1 when it releases on DVD.

I had some issues with Oblivion as well, but it seems likely that if you're in a scifi mood and that movie is still around, it's probably a better bet.

This is the movie I know as "Another Earth"

Its pretty good. The same people that made that produced a movie a few years after/before? called "The Sound of My Voice" which was about a cult but had some deeper meanings if you so feel like analyzing.

I watched "Sound..." first than went back and watched "Another Earth"

Good stuff.

Why so many end of world, doom, and crisis movies lately?

I don't know about anyone else but the subject always fascinated me. I have a bunch of imaginary scenarios of what would I do in case of something like this happening. Also there is no easier way than this to write about how certain people would react to it.

Do you guys like will smith as an actor? I see him as terrible worse than Tom Cruise by a long shot. If he is in a movie I don't see it, I have seen enough to know what I am getting and know I don' want it.

I like Will Smith as an actor but this film doesn't play to his strengths. I seen the movie because it was part of a drive in double feature last week along with fast and the furious 6.

I really enjoyed the Furious 6 however, After Earth had a lot of potential and failed to show it in my opinion. It didn't have the right actors and it didn't play the key action elements well either.

I like M. Night Shamalan most of the time and Will Smith is close to the top of my list of A list actors but it just didn't work out with this movie.

I like Will Smith, but I don't necessarily like his movies. in fact, I've only ever seen a few, and rarely ever watched Fresh Prince.

Probably my favorite movie I saw him in was Hancock, because he was playing kind of against type -- it's too bad the movie itself was flawed, the concept was pretty great. The first half hour of the uncut version is fun.

I like Hancock. Its was a very interesting take on the superhero archetype.

I won a free ticket to the cinema so I checked the movie out. It wasn't horrible, but I a left with a lot of questions after it ended, that were not answered, which was frustrating (like how would plants be so healthy by daytime and completely freeze by night, or what the hell were monkeys and tigers doing in pine forests. Also what was the use of those aliens?)

Or why did the giant eagle take the boy if it wasn't for food for her chicks?

And how could the nest/eggs have survived the freeze thaw cycle?

Or why didn't they have better weapons, or why didn't they have at least one station situated on earth that would be like an army module, and howcome the boy jumped into the water when they more than likely didn't have a sample to see if its poison, also how hot is the day for the completely frozen water to be swimmable?
