Do not post or view here unnecessarily. The sole purpose of this thread is to check out the bot spiders viewing count and discount human viewing counts. This thread is under Science and Technology.

Holy mother of bananas! Posted this at 1:09 and at 1:52 there are 1002 viewings. Okay. I don't care. Feel free to post, view or not.

Well, I'm not a bot (I think), but this sure was a fun thread.
Well 16 hours later I was going to sit back and enjoy the statistics and only 2,171 miserable viewings. Have the bots figured out how much fun this thread isn't? How did those bots decide this thread was a loser? Maybe they hopped on those keywords the first hour and finding nothing of interest inside, they bumped the priority down to the bottom?

I think this is how it works, yes.
But the topic sounded interesting! :D
Why are you interested in the bots?

I would ask Architect, but this isn't the Ask Architect thread. My main interest is to wonder if viewing counts are artificially high due to non-human searches.

Specifically the Understanding Made Simple thread currently reads 18,212 views. How many of those are due to bots searching out the words "understand" or "simple"? Assuming 1000 odd days since the thread was created, that would mean 18 viewings per day. That seems high for humans.

Well, the title is very universal and thus seductive to click.
Given that we have roughly 5000 visitors online in the last 24 hours, i think 18 clicks per day is realistic.
Usually the bots will attempt to make an index of the entire site,
but given how many threads there are in total, this may take longer than usual.

@BAP

Are you trying to overload the INTP forum? What purpose does this information serve?

If that was the case, i suppose other keywords might have been more suited to this goal.
Besides, i'm sure the admin has put measures into use to prevent such a thing from happening, at least via spiders.
Which reminds me, the mods should have access to very detailed statistics, including user and crawler paths on the forum.

Since the last time we had issues, after JustGeorge was banned, I am fairly sure that the problem was resolved but I guess I was just giving BAP a hard time since I like him and all. I do still wonder what this thread was about but likely it was a random Ne event caused by a bout of curiosity of I wonder....

Let's make this thread the ultimate bot keyword attraction trap!
I challenge everyone to come up with a string similar to the title! :D

This test isn't going to tell you anything, the proper way to do it is to set up Google Analytics, if it hasn't been done yet. One of the moderators has to do it. You insert a seed into the forum pages then Google does the rest.

If you knew how much they know about your browsing habits you might be a little frightened.

Assuming you don't use google chrome then the way they can gather data on you are the sites that support google scripts and usage of the search engine.
Then this is ip based so they would quickly gather a cloud of information that is connected to one or several ip's in case of dynamic ip.

If you use google chrome or you are logged into google then I cannot even begin to guess how much info is availible, they can potentially have every piece of usage information

Comments so far:

The initial creation of this thread produced a tremendous number of hits in a short time but then the hits quieted down to normal ... what you see today ... practically nothing. I conclude the search bot/spiders took an initial interest then on looking inside, decided "the hell with this." Anyone here could try it again with a different set of words, but I'll bet the same thing would happen.

Good point. A better test would have been with a title: "Published works of the 1820's decade and their influence on the 1830's" (or something equally dull) followed by the keywords. Then posters here wouldn't be tempted to look inside the thread. Although this thread is currently attracting attention a test could be ongoing as soon as interest quiets down and the topic gets buried.

Do you mean inside this thread or a new thread? So far I see no danger of that happening. Anyway (@Grayman) if that should happen we can ask the mods to kill this thread.

That could be interesting but my rapport with the moderators is not all that good. If someone wants to ask ...

@Architect: You mean Google? Can't I defeat that by deleting cookies or requesting a new user name? I'm ignorant about this.

World's Most Boring Thread

This is a solicitation for the world's most boring thread title. If one can be created even more dull than the one I chose above, and it is long enough to hide keywords which will follow, it can be submitted to wring those useless bots' necks and defeat them at their own game and at the same time provide statistics which when published will contribute to the betterment of the world and maybe international peace while simultaneously pacifying many militant moderators even if not all.

Question: Does a title have a length limit?

List your candidates below ... if you dare.

Make sure your society is so secret even YOU will not know about it.

Oh. You have 24 hours to destroy that revealing post. If I see it gone, remind me to destroy this one.

P.S. Spread the word.:D

World's Most Boring Thread

Reverse psychology will still account for some human clicks.
Admins/Mods should have access to statcounter.com for advanced statistics.
