i think the world will run out of water eventually

which leads me to think, can magma and underground rocks be converted to water?

how can we reduce our dependence on water

even if is it possible desert sand can be converted to water.

desalination is expensive but if groundwater runs out we must do so.

this will create lots of new jobs.

Desalination at scale is expensive, there are cheap methods of desalination that use sunlight to evaporate the water or freezing to separate out impurities, try making a block of perfectly clear ice it's a fun little science challenge.

But a desalination plant usually has to supply fresh water to millions of homes and the only way to process that much water that fast is to just pump it through a series of increasingly fine filters, which takes a lot of energy and because its working with salt water the machinery will need a lot of maintenance.

Billions of years in the future the solar wind will strip away Earth's atmosphere and oceans and we'll end up like Mars, I wouldn't worry about it.

Rather we should be worried about running out of drinkable fresh water because the vast majority of fresh water we currently have access to is being harvested from the natural water cycle and we use A LOT of fresh water. If the global population kept increasing we would likely have run into water scarcity, but it looks like we've entered a terminal decline spiral instead.

the only way is to change mangma or rocks into water

or harverst water in outerspace

or make humans less dependent on water, and offer other alternatives to water.

Humans don't do well without water.

Magma is like liquid fire. Rocks are solid Earth. Unless you can extract the hydrogen and oxygen, and turn them into water, usually, the answer is "no".

how can we reduce our dependence on water
80% of our bodies are water. Not having enough water will literally kill all the cells in our bodies.

even if is it possible desert sand can be converted to water.
Desert sand is like lots of tiny rocks. Same problem as turning underground rocks into water.

The answer for now is that it seems unlikely that we will run out of drinking water in our lifetime.

The answer for later is Mars.
