If you ever known or currently know, met once, grow up with, married, went out with, are friends with, fought, worked with, raised one or was raised by one then maybe you can help me. What I am looking for is a list of descriptions of different INTPs. I'm curious to see what differences or uniqueness is we have within the similar sign. At the end of each list please add any stories or comments about the person. Thank you for any responses.

Well, my big brother is apparently an intp. While I can recognize myself in his thought processes, we are still pretty different.

I think the computer (os=personality) metaphor works pretty well on the topic of mbti and personality as well.

Building a better stereotype?

Just curious and interested in what other INTPs are like. Also curious about how other people see us. That's all. Plus I think the people that know us can paint a better picture than we can of ourselves. A lot of the time people see themselves different somehow then they actually are. Plus the description of type is a general description. Describing various INTPs can show how we handle are characteristics as individuals. It can show how we are the same in general but very depending on numerous things such as race, financial status, parenting, siblings, friends, education, neighborhood and other influences and experiences that people go through in life. It's could show how we can be both grouped and individualized at the same time.

Man, this makes me smile! I know 4 INTPs, I think all of them are super cute. I'm an INFJ.

The first man I fell in love with was an INTP, I was 21, at the time and he was 39. He had radical control of Fe. The first man I met that could weather my emotional sandstorms by both giving emotion back and walking back with logic. The only man I've been with that could tap into both sides of that coin for me that strongly (Fe & Ti).

The first TD I worked with was an INTP, he would explain anything to me and liked finding ways of making complex things understandable (I know about threads and race conditions due to him).

The last physics programmer I was working with is an INTP, brilliant crazy. Has a temper, when his temper comes out it shines with Fe. His temper relates to people stomping on him, not taking him seriously. He usually lays his facts out in a sardonic manner, which leads to people ignoring them. He and I would sometimes get on the same page really quickly and confuse everyone else in the room, it was great when we would lose the ENTP that he was close friends with and the INTJ that I'm close friends with. They both can understand us separately, but together we go in a different vector.

The other INTP I met briefly, would stare off into the distance and Ti things and then come back to the conversation.

So, my stereotypes of INTPs: if I want to learn *something* I can find one and ask them to teach my *something*. If I need a specific solution, I ask one of my INTJ friends, but they will often not explain things to me for the sake of explaining them. I think INTP humor is hilarious (by which I mean the flavor of humor that all the INTPs I've met have). There is something very charming about Ti. So, INTP that has figured out Fe = irresistible for me.

I have met an INFP, but I have yet to meet another INTP. :P I will forever be misunderstood until this takes place. The INFP and I can relate somewhat.

How strange must we seem to people? I mean I know that no two people are exactly the same but we are way different than anyone else.

I have a pretty good idea. I have been the odd man out in school all my life. We are just....different. We think differently, we act differently socially, and our personality though it cares about conformation, we still refuse to conform. That being said: We will not blend in to what is common and thus, look to be a completely different species.

Though I believe everything thinks a little differently, many mask their thinking style to look 'normal'. I am not entirely sure why, but INTP's have a difficult time doing that. I have thought, 'outside of the box' all of my life and it was almost used as an insult. Well, since no one else is, than I guess it must be my job.

My father is an INTP. He has always been an extremely eccentric hermit, but he has other issues mental health-wise. People have been known to think him a bit of a pushover, as he is overly generous with his material possessions (which he does not value). He's also EXTREMELY left wing to the point where I (being moderately left) raise an eyebrow.

Earlier I mentioned by little bro. We always have short sweet conversations, full of insight.

Now that I think about it, my professor was an intp. He was intimidated by me, and I by him. It was weird.

I know a handful and suspect a few others.

My father is an INTP. Very old school hardass type. We had a very strong relationship early on when I was young but his years of drinking/emotional neglect(not entirely his fault?)and other factors growing up divided us and we rarely ever talk today. ^It's a little bit like that student/professor relation xbox mentioned. We are both a tad bit intimidated by each other and chose to communicate around each other rather than directly...through my mother mostly. It's not that we dislike each other, it is just that we are both so different in our veiw points about mostly everything and kind of have communication walls up. Anyway we are both trying to bridge that gap, little by little.

He rarely shows emotion, his thinking process is quite eccentric(I always felt SMALL around him growing up), he's usually easy going and friendly despite having a stern angry look on his face at all times. His capacity for anger has been something to behold. He would always buy himself tech gadgets like video cameras, DVD players, stereos, and stuff just to end up giving it away to someone. He has never cared about material objects. If the INTP is known for being quick to dismiss notions and ideas that dont support their own experience, then my dad has a huge tendency for this. He still stuck in the Reagan era as far as his political views are concerned. And me? I'm just a nut as far as he's concerned ha.

Oddly enough there are three INTP's in my immediate family. Father, me, and my younger sister(7 years younger than me). My sister is one of the funniest people I know. Growing up as a young tot she would always ask some pretty weird questions revealing quite a curiosity for understanding things. She did have some more behavioral troubles as a kid than me(like hitting her kindergarden teacher and throwing massive temper tantrums her whole first week of school)a few elementary school fights, as she got older she cooled down. But she shares the same kind of temperment as me and my dad. We always seem kinda pissed off and negative, with huge capacity for anger when finally triggered. She's alot of fun for me.

My younger brother(3 years) is an ISTP, he is always in a cheery mood. He can definitely keep up with us on theory and abstract thought, but he prefers to focus on doing things, like working on cars and computers. He's the most logical dude I know. I know he doesnt count(topic wise) but thought I'd mention.

Aside from that I know maybe 3 more INTP's personally, one female, and two dudes. All different....unfortunately, I gots to go. I will edit in their description later.

I know... hmm... maybe three of them?

One from train, when I was on my three-tour-day to "upgrade mah spirit" :D Shy, quiet guy with strange look in eyes.

The second one is more probably ENTP. He likes physical adventures, but I have him in the box "XNTP" still because he have some traits of INTP (from those that are not at ENTP included).

The third one is 97% surely INTP. He is just "that quiet daydreamer" in my class. He is, as his nick says, daydreaming all the day in the school. And he is friendly. I have percieved him as ENTP, until I have started thread about differences between INTP and ENTP. Now I am sure. He also seeks for love, but, hopelessly. He is just like "I like her, but I am too shy to ask her out". JUST LIKE ME :D:D:D

Then I have met a lot of ISTP's, one special INFP, ISTJ (my father) and maybe ENTP (2nd one).

Feels like I can relate to both. Although I can get pretty extravagant, eccentric and animated when I feel in the right place. Strange look in the eyes I can relate to because... I don't know, I feel like I quite often have an empty or zoned-out look on my face, when I'm thinking or analyzing stuff. I'm also a pretty hopeless shy guy forever trying to build up the courage to ask girls out.

I know a few INTPs. All are weird but friendly. They all seem to have random existential crises all the time though, which I can relate to. I wonder if this gets less as an INTP ages, I sure hope so. Almost all INTPs I know are pretty good friends of mine. I hang out a lot with NPs in general, I've noticed.

Yeah, that look I know... it appears on my face when some great idea comes to my mind by Ti.

And I forgot to say, that I know another perfect INTP. He plays chess. He is seen by public as... hmm... "stranger, but the funny type of stranger" :D. He appears as Extrovert, but he behaves more like Introvert, he needs always some moment only for himself. He also reacts too quickly e. g. in chess (just like me), so it is common for him to loose or ... hmm, I don't know how to say it in english... give him pat? You know, that situation, when the king have nowhere to move, his move is only possible and he is not in threat by others... sounds maybe strange..

To the second one: He behaves after all more like ENTP. He always says the strange ideas, which make no sense, and when he hasn't got any, he is quiet. So ignore the second one... thanks!

When my father died, I did not cry or look sad. I cried in my head, if that makes sense. Then, i was able to deny and repress that emotion like a surgeon. A few years later i finally cried about it. This was last year. I was taking a shower and all of a sudden I started crying. Since then I've kind of sorted out what emotions mean. Previously, I would feel things like maybe heat and cold and pain in my heart, for example, but not know that normal people might describe these feelings as happiness, sadness, or anxiety. Before I became more adept at discerning my feelings, I might just describe it as heartburn and try to smoke a bowl and go to sleep.

Lol I know someone who I think is an INTP. It's hard to tell because I'm not too good at typing people but he definitely seems like it. He's a year older than me(we both go to High School) and the only time I really see him is sometimes at lunch and we also both play Volleyball for the school. At lunch he usually just chills in some random classroom(alone) and eats. When asked why he says he likes the quiet, which I can relate to. And at volleyball he is a little more outgoing but is still a little quiet and reserved.

One of my closest friends is an INTP. Long moments of boredom normally stem from the occasionally conflicting interests with him talking about something I don't care about for hours or vice versa. We tend to agree on most things from music to philosophy, and we have contests to see who can prove the teacher wrong the most which is always fun.

I believe there are three INTPs in my family, other than myself. One is my father. He can be eccentric at times but he has people skills if he finds that he wants/needs to use it. However, it seems that he has few of the flaws of being perceiving, as he is the best person with money I know, and he seems to have little trouble getting work done. Whenever I have something that my INTP-ness needs to know, 99% of the time he knows, as long as it doesn'trelae to video games, books, TV, or movies. The second is my 18 year old brother. As he has Asperger's Syndrome, he can be difficult to talk to, but he have very similar interests and is also very smart. The thirdis my 16 year old sister. While I am not sure whether she is an INTP or INFP, she is very smart and has similar interests to me. With four out of five members of my family being INTP, this sort of leaves my mother out. She is an ISTJ, and although our differences definately show (we argue fairly often), she is also very intelligent, and she is pretty much the only member of our family who geta things done, physical-wise (such as making beds), so thank god she is the type she is. Overall, my family is quite enjoyable. Sadly though, I don't believe I know any other INTPs in school. The closest I've found was an ENTJ who I am very close friends with, and enjoy playing chess with. (We are equals in that reguard, which is always nice). I find other NTs very nice to be around.

^Can you be more specific?

As an INTP female. I think I'm attracted to I***'s but unfortunately I tend to attract E***'s. Well obviously because they're E, so they tend to approach people more often.

I prefer approaching I***'s though.

I like nerdy types a lot.
