I'm being sponsored to climb Everest base camp in september and i'm expected to raise £2250, I have very little experience in fundraising. While i'm getting a lot of advise from the charity i'm trying to think how I can play on my strengths to raise money. Can you think of any good fundraising methods specific to an INTP? If not can you think of any good methods in general. I have plenty of time but I figure it's best to brain storm as early as possible as it is a lot of money.

I'm quite close with a lot of people from the christian union at the University, which happens to be the biggest student christian union in the country, don't know if this might help for anything. I'm also very experienced at running pub quizzes.

On a sidenote am I allowed to put a link to my virgin giving account in my signature on this forum? I know some forums are sensitive to personal appeals but figure it's worth asking as every little helps.

Cheers guys.

Hmmm You may wish to contact people within the climbing community or those with connections in Nepal(?) I can recommend my friend, Jeff Rasley at http://www.jeffreyrasley.com/. He may know of a means to reduce the costs or whatever...

There may be some educational grants that could apply towards funding this educational/research venture. Generally speaking, the more one can get involved in an effort the more funds are generated. Perhaps a group that you are involved in is willing to sponsor an event in your behalf(?) Again, the more that know of your need, the better the probability of funds being donated -publicize in some form. Who knows maybe even a youtube video could bring in some funds. There also is the possibility of a 'corporate' sponsor of some kind...

Probably the best advice i can give, though, is to simply find someone who had the same problem and solved it. Then Imitate the methods that led to their success.

I will check his website thanks Blob. I'm not too worried as I think 8 months is a huge amount of time to raise £2300.

Youtube is an interesting idea though, is it legal to ask for donations via video on youtube?

In the end I just have to suck up and raise via traditional means, bag packing, standing in a train station with a bucket etc. They are all highly extraverted activities though, was interested how an INTP could fit in to raising money. We need some sort've brilliant scheme :D

A chance to strengthen weaknesses is , I wonder, if better than strengthening strengths.

INTP raising money would be to ignore the "I", strengthen the E, and go for it as an ENTP type of intp.

Try performing a service. Go out and offer to shovel sidewalks, brush snow off cars (provided it's snowing), wash cars or houses or sidewalks, weed, cut grass... basically think of any distasteful task and go offer to do it, but when you do, wear a t-shirt (or a hat/jacket, maybe) promoting your chosen charity (or the specific event, if you have one) and carry a sponsorship/donation card or leaflet with you, so people know the charity and event actually exist. I think people are more likely to give to a cause if they get something in return, and they're more likely to pay to have something done for them if they know said pay is going to a good cause.

A good INTP method would be to hawk silly things on eBay. Say, go to a flea market or thrift store, buy a huge amount of secondhand books, and put them on eBay as the "Mystery Bag of Books!" with a side note in the product info that the proceeds from the sale (minus postage) will go to your charity. eBay usually lets silly stuff like that slide when it is for charity. You can probably think of other stuff to sell there, but it's perfect: almost no human interaction whatsoever. :smiley_emoticons_mr

Most fundraising I do is with band so generally we are selling stuff but we have one event called the Rock-a-thon where we get donations to stay up all night rocking in rocking chairs. Best way to do it, go somewhere that people know you well before asking, and let them know where the money is going. Before you start "Would you like to help support _____"
or if you're trying the public service thing, "Do you happen to need anything done around?" "Well I need my lawn mowed" "Well it just so happens that I need to raise money for ____" Always mention (if in the US) that donations are tax deductible.

That's my typical approach to it. I made a good 160 bucks in 2 days of doing that and didn't go near as far as I could have. (Will do that later during the rock-a-thon)

Obviously this post is on fundraising in general. :p That ebay thing is a pretty brilliant scheme but doesn't Ebay charge you for keeping things up to sell?

I think fundraisers are usually pretty inefficient uses of people's time. It would probably be more productive to get a part-time job flipping burgers...
