Practical question. Given that the way you start the day 'primes' you for the rest of the day. How do YOU start your day of right? What I mean is, we all have a list of things we must or desire to accomplish during the day. By waking up on the 'wrong side of the bed' this make the days tasks less suffer-able and diminishes ones will and enjoyment of the activity.

Some days, I'm in the zone man, my energy is limitless. And other days I stew in my own frustration. It's basically a coin flip, and I know that in my case its because of how I started.

So again, what do you do to get the most productivity, and enjoyment out of your day?

Well... The age old advice of healthy meals, enough exercise and sufficient sleep applies.
Doing this, one will be energetic from morning till night, ready to tackle the day.

I do not conform to one of these three factors, and thus some mornings I crawl to the kitchen for coffee, yearning to poison the neighbor's yapping dog, while others I jump out of bed, willing to best a balrog.

So, a healthy lifestyle secures the physical side of things, while the mental aspect is up to you.

Those who need to motivate themselves each morning, are wont to hate life.
They should take the day as it comes, no preperation is needed for it.

yeah I know how this goes. for me, the more I can cram into the first 30 minutes, the better everything will go. On a weekend that often means completing all hygiene tasks immediately upon waking up, then commencing whatever chores I need to do like vacuuming, cleaning or laundry. On weekdays when I have to be at work first thing, it means (again) completing all hygiene tasks immediately, eating, doing daily chores (like litterbox) and getting dressed.

Point is, if you spend 30 minutes first thing in the day then you can sometimes set yourself up to coast the rest of the day with nothing looming. Vacuuming and laundry** are simple tasks at 7 AM but once you're on the computer then it's 10, then 2, then 4, then 7:30, then suddenly these seem like horrible tasks that you'll never get done and they have been hovering over your head all day.

**Can be any kind of task, of course.

While I only usually get 4-6 hours of sleep, I have found that sticking to a schedule is really helpful. For me it is when I vary from a schedule that I have the worst days. I also found this video informative and it has improved my productivity during the day:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6zcSFA7ymo
In addition to this it you want to ensure that you wake up in between sleep cycles I recommend downloading this application if you have a device that works for it:
http://www.sleepcycle.com/
The application monitors at what times you are most awake throughout the night and it will wake you at the time you are most awake during a 30 minute window (can be adjusted for a larger and shorter window of time) you give it. It has consistently given me the proper start to the day more than any other technique I've tried. In addition, the application gives further feedback on how well you have slept and helps you track what behaviors (like drinking coffee, exercise, etc.) have an effect on your sleep quality.

I wake up slowly, usually. And usually I seem to creep out of some dream I am having. So between sleep and being awake I transit pretty much seamlessly between dream narrative and my waking intrusive thinking.

So as soon as I am more or less awake, one, two or three different threads will start to fight for attention in my brain.

That means that I can spend between 15 minutes and several hours in bed thinking, following trains of thought, jumping between these several threads, with some falling away, replaced by another.

So, starting the day for me is a slow and often annoying process and any energy I have waking up is quickly spend on my inner dialogue and rehashing old theories or rephrasing certain views of theories meticulously.

By the time I get up to go to the bathroom my mind is racing and from there on I am lost to my AD(H)D symptoms.

There is no right side of the bed for me. By the time I have had breakfast, I deconstructed reality, re-assembled it again, killed several people mentally, justified my actions in a court of law, thought of my broken past, examined my broken life and got annoyed by the fact I still hadn't done some chore or task I promised myself I would do.

The rest of the day after is more or less spoiled.

I start the day slow and I get tired quite quick after.

Do any of you recognize these thoughts you get right from the get go after waking up?
