This entails that we're deterministic.

We're not deterministic.

Well that was easy.

My hypothesis is that it's made of sushi.

The statement is so vague as to be unarguable. What does "made of" mean? How do you define information?

Intuitively though I agree with the idea, stated more precisely I'd say "all that we really care about in the universe is information based, this is due to evolution being an information generating process"

Nuh-uh, it's made of cheese and soft shelled crab. It tastes so good, but also gives an allergic reaction.

I found the idea vague and thus rather meaningless as well... Anything can be viewed as information in some way.

Leading to "I ate the universe... and then my face swelled up something fierce"?

From information theory we can define information well enough, fundamentally information is the relationship between cause and effect. Colloquially you could think that with a big enough 3D printer you could create the universe. Conversely with a 3D scanner you can digitize it, thus showing the correspondence between information and the physical.

...I wonder how much plastic you'd have to buy to 3D print the universe.

(and then... where would you put it?)

How big do you want it?

Put it inside a black hole, thus truly creating a separate universe without information leakage (though Hawking thinks he might have a way around that)

I don't know 1 and 0s perhaps?

yea but you need some sort of input. if the input is not information you cannot interpret it as information. what i think you are saying is like the mind creates information by itself, but reality could be something else entirely.

An informationless reality is not possible.

If something at all exists, it can be viewed as "information" by any rational life form.

Only something that doesn't exist isn't information... although an intelligence can still come up with information about it -- "That does not exist."

Information is when consciousness recognizes something about something, but it's not really saying much to point that out.

Imagine a transparent cube standing out of the transparent vacuum of space.
now imagine that this transparent cube melts.

Oh fuck you, I'm late to the party so I have to read every post before I add my piece and just as I'm getting to the end I find someone has posted a link.

You utter troll -.-

Anyway my thoughts on this is that if you put something on a table it's above the ground and therefore has potential kinetic energy and it is this storage of energy that reveals the fundamental nature of energy (and thus matter which is comprised of energy) as information, because nothing about the object itself has changed, the energy exists as a hypothetical yet real potential, indeed a potential that as far as we know cannot be created or destroyed.

Does this mean we're living in a simulation?
Well existentially speaking it doesn't really matter, the search for authenticity sank with the ship of Theseus.
