It occurred to me that many people have strong opinions about beer. For some of us, beer preferences are as much a part of us as our taste in music or politics.

So have at it. Which are the the best and worst types of beer, and why?

Edit: Sorry for taking so long with the poll.

Objects in the mirror might look closer than they
from what i remember i would discard budwiser and carlberg, both were too damn soft, like holy water.
on the other hand i think voll damn doble malta is really good, three of them in short time and you are drunk as fuck.
don't ever try chocolate or strawberry flavored beers, their taste will make you vommit most likely.

I prefer wine for taste and vodka for being drunk (much healthier to by drunk by vodka than by beer)

I don't know what half of these words mean or what they imply about the taste. Beer is gross, but I'll drink it if it gets me drunk.

I know that PBR, 805 and Miller High Life don't make me want to kill myself to escape the ordeal of drinking them. So whatever type of beer those are.

(inb4 hate for being uncultured and liking "pisswater" beer. Seriously if your beer isn't pisswater then it's presumably less like water which means you're proud of drinking piss, you sick fucks.)

Also Manipulator, how is it healthier to be drunk off vodka than beer? They're both alcohol, surely they get you drunk with the same level of health.

I like easy-drinking pale ale and some lagers, the less stale ones.

Dark ale and stout is a weird preference.

I can't really drink anymore.

I really liked pale ales, and IPAs. But I would drink any beer that was offered to me. Honestly, I like lagers too. Just out of the fridge with condensation dripping off it. Then take a nice hot shower. Dos Equis, is probably my favorite shower beer, with rolling rock and stella as close seconds. More bitter and sweet beers, just don't refresh me.

Like I said, though, I can't really drink anymore. Waking up with my heart pounding the next morning after 2 bud wiesers, isn't worth it. Alcohol is the devil. Open your heart to mescaline.:elephant:

The only beer I've ever liked was German. Can't stand the beer in the UK.

Mainly like wines preferably, or ciders, spirits (vodka, whiskey, absinthe). I don't drink very often, typically socially, occasionally a few alone if I'm feeling melancholy (like now, unfortunately.)

It's the idea that pure alcohol is less toxic and gives an easier hangover. This has at the time been confirmed by my chemist teacher where she explained that she'd always choose her own distilled spirit above the flavoured vodka or malts because its various chemical additives make it far less digestible.

Best beer, porter, bright beer is piss.

I dunno. I've never tried a Lambic beer or Barley Wine before, but when I double-checked to make sure I didn't forget anything, they came up. Both really interesting. But as far as more typical beers go, I'll drink a Vienna Lager in a pinch, but I prefer the smoother, dark brews myself. I realize there are those who say you don't like beer if you don't like Pale Ales, but only the Irish Reds are tolerable in my book. That bitter, hoppy taste just isn't enjoyable.

Dark ale ftw. Occasionally an IPA fan too. Apparently that makes me weird.

Y'all could drown me in this stuff with no consequence.

Oh, and Fat Tire... tastes like BBQ sauce.

I'll drink any beer, but I tend to purchase 'pale'.
Prefer European to American tho.

That may be true in the mass market, perhaps, but we have a thriving microbrew market that can easily rival the European beers. We also have a few big hitters now like Sam Adams that hold up fine internationally too (in quality).

Enjoying Sam Adams Octoberfest right meow.

The best.

I also enjoy Kona Brewing Company - Longboard. Which is a lager apparently.

So lagers get my vote, I suppose.

I don't drink very often though. Doesn't take much to get buzzed.

I wish I could get into whiskey. Much easier to buy a $9 pack of beer than commit to a $25 bottle of whiskey that may or may not suck total ass to drink.

Wine is cool though.

Actually, I was just about to write about how all whiskey sucks as far as I'm concerned because I've only ever tried Jack Daniels, but then I just took a shot of Southern Comfort to test that notion and damn, I could get used to this shit.

*send whiskey recommendations here*

*Edit: Took a shot of Jack Daniels to compare. Nope, no good. :ahh:

Beer tastes bad so I don't like it. Have tested cider though and it tastes far better.

I really don't like our local beer so I only drink wine instead.

However, I am yet to drink Western beer so I might change my opinion once I sample some of them.

Hmm I haven't gotten the chance to drink most of the beers that are listed, but I'd probably go for some malty lager of some type, given that it's pretty much what a stereotypical beer is. American "lower tier" beers were a letdown though, I was actually pretty surprised when I drank Budweiser and Miller Lites.

I don't get all the rage about IPAs either, (yes I'm talking about you, Michigan), but then again the ones over in Asia aren't that great either, so meh. Korean beers are cheap as hell (Cass, Hite) while Japanese beers are too dry for my taste (Kirin, Asahi). Chinese beers on the other hand are surprisingly decent (e.g. Tsingtao). Most beers are fine if you chill them enough and if you something to eat at the same time, though.

On getting drunk, beer just for drinking is a bit off I think, or drinking it just for the sake of getting drunk. I think it's sort of a waste. If I wanted to unhinge I think liquors would be the thing to go for. Gins were my favorite, especially Seagrams. I don't mind cognacs either, but- but then cognacs are hella expensive. Soju and sake are okay, but man, those are just common peasantry social poisons :D

Drinking gamers usually go for vodka/whiskey/rum, that's always fun. If your friend is a wine person wine stuff is fun too. Wine's only interesting when you drink with someone else though, I think, with the cheese tasting and all o:
