I've been late to work several days because I've slept in. I sleep in because I tend to stay up too long at night. I know this is a problem and am trying to remedy it.

However, since I'm out of a job the next time it happens, I've decided that if I stay awake much too long on a given night, I'll need to force myself through the day with little-no sleep. (Hopefully this won't happen often).

I'm wondering what you guys do when you find yourself in a "Must stay awake" situation. We've all had them, be it classes or jobs or what have you. what do you do to stay awake.

Lots of caffeine obviously, anything else?

Water will sometimes be more effective than caffeine. But if you go for caffeine, try tea or something first. Go for as little sugar as possible to avoid a crash.

It seems my sleepiness is multiplied 10 fold when I have to stay in one spot. So I suggest moving about.

Make yourself uncomfortable. Wear pants that are too tight, sit on something awkward (heehee :smoker:) or eat a pickled jalapeno every 30 minutes.

Or do something you know will keep your attention but save doing it for that point when you are close to wanting to go to sleep.

I'm the master at pulling all-nighters so as not to oversleep the next morning. I wish I had better ideas for you but I'm just good at it because of many years practice.

Rather than staying up all night and giving yourself a shitty day, why don't you just take some pills and knock yourself out 3 or so hours before you usually fall asleep and set an alarm an hour or two before you leave for work. Unless of course you use an alarm and just sleep through it, in which case you need a louder and more obnoxious alarm.

I'd love to score some adderall just to try it...but I've heard it was like baby meth so I'm a little reluctant!

OP, I stay up ridiculously late for no reason too...just browsing the web. And I usually skip my morning lectures because of my lie-ins. It's becoming a bit of a problem...this thread is relevant to my interests.

I personally have not had this problem (much(yet)) but I find it helps you stay awake if you give yourself 10-15 minutes in bed right after you've woken up;It improves the waking up process so much.

Random point: does anyone, about an hour after they have started sleeping find that nothing can wake them up, while in the morning even the tiniest sound will?

just try to do something very active through the day during your free time so you will be tired at night earlier and you can use that to get up earlier and you will actualy sleep much better so u will nedd less sleep. i used to need sleeping pills but a good workout works much better and it healthier. my favoritething to do is workout and box.:beatyou:
