I'm collecting testimony on the human (if not other species as well) defecation cycle for a number of reasons. The help will indirectly contribute to a special project of which I play a small role. So, any input will be appreciated and the discussion of stats is welcome, mine included, if that much is desired.
For example, one source claimed defecating once every three days is normal, or default. A colleague challenged this, suggesting once every three days is probably unhealthy. We made some adjustments and presented the notion that "maybe once everyday or every other day" is probably realistically optimal. Once or twice in the same day can be considered normal as well.
We got a few volunteers, mostly claiming once a day to be normal (depending on how many burritos, nachos, and/or pizza was consumed). Funnily, the survey required volunteers to list their routine diet but no one really provided this important aspect to a satisfying enough extent, and so we were unable to reach useful conclusions in that regard. Presently, though, a little bit is known about this.
For my own personal history and interest, in case anyone was wondering - I once knew a man who would poop multiple times in a day... And in the same hour at that! This was curious to me. Of course, his diet was mostly processed junk foods but then again so was mine although probably to a lesser extent. His body probably had reduced ability to metabolize nutrients, through a number of accidents this individual experienced. However, my anatomy & physiology expert is not present so much of my guessing in this category is mostly via desperation.
As such, it had already been presumed that a diet comprised mostly of carbs will lead to drier and more "air filled" feces. Thus, one objective was to further substantiate which variety diet will lead to the most efficient type of feces, in a manner that if one were in the wild as a potentially vulnerable specimen, which diet would, in effect, lead to less time in a vulnerable state? Also keeping I mind any nutritional value for keeping proteins, bone structures, and blood flow well fit and nourished. That is why we are curious about specific dietary regimens, on average rather than ideal.
In addition, there may have been some talk about light and environment playing a role in bowel regulation. It is a well known fact that white light stimulates melatonin synthesis, which is partly responsible for the sleep cycle as well as other things. Perhaps indirectly, light works to suppress bowel movement. Thus, we had hypothesized that spacious, well lit areas, in addition to diets, play a decisive role in our day to day activities. However, more information is needed to further substantiate this claim.
To wrap up, I need anyone who sees this thread to supply the following information: average diet, typical beverage of choice, the various typical times a meal is had, and the average amount of times these substances catalyze a defecation appointment.
Tldr, a little bit of fat is excreted in the feces during fasting. What role do various foods have on behavior? What, besides a wholesome well rounded balanced diet of everything, is a recommended diet for maximum performance in daily living? What would be the bare minimum for maximum performance?
Food science is still a young field so we need all the information we can get. We shan't pretend to know more about it than we actually do.
