I'm collecting testimony on the human (if not other species as well) defecation cycle for a number of reasons. The help will indirectly contribute to a special project of which I play a small role. So, any input will be appreciated and the discussion of stats is welcome, mine included, if that much is desired.

For example, one source claimed defecating once every three days is normal, or default. A colleague challenged this, suggesting once every three days is probably unhealthy. We made some adjustments and presented the notion that "maybe once everyday or every other day" is probably realistically optimal. Once or twice in the same day can be considered normal as well.

We got a few volunteers, mostly claiming once a day to be normal (depending on how many burritos, nachos, and/or pizza was consumed). Funnily, the survey required volunteers to list their routine diet but no one really provided this important aspect to a satisfying enough extent, and so we were unable to reach useful conclusions in that regard. Presently, though, a little bit is known about this.

For my own personal history and interest, in case anyone was wondering - I once knew a man who would poop multiple times in a day... And in the same hour at that! This was curious to me. Of course, his diet was mostly processed junk foods but then again so was mine although probably to a lesser extent. His body probably had reduced ability to metabolize nutrients, through a number of accidents this individual experienced. However, my anatomy & physiology expert is not present so much of my guessing in this category is mostly via desperation.

As such, it had already been presumed that a diet comprised mostly of carbs will lead to drier and more "air filled" feces. Thus, one objective was to further substantiate which variety diet will lead to the most efficient type of feces, in a manner that if one were in the wild as a potentially vulnerable specimen, which diet would, in effect, lead to less time in a vulnerable state? Also keeping I mind any nutritional value for keeping proteins, bone structures, and blood flow well fit and nourished. That is why we are curious about specific dietary regimens, on average rather than ideal.

In addition, there may have been some talk about light and environment playing a role in bowel regulation. It is a well known fact that white light stimulates melatonin synthesis, which is partly responsible for the sleep cycle as well as other things. Perhaps indirectly, light works to suppress bowel movement. Thus, we had hypothesized that spacious, well lit areas, in addition to diets, play a decisive role in our day to day activities. However, more information is needed to further substantiate this claim.

To wrap up, I need anyone who sees this thread to supply the following information: average diet, typical beverage of choice, the various typical times a meal is had, and the average amount of times these substances catalyze a defecation appointment.

Tldr, a little bit of fat is excreted in the feces during fasting. What role do various foods have on behavior? What, besides a wholesome well rounded balanced diet of everything, is a recommended diet for maximum performance in daily living? What would be the bare minimum for maximum performance?

Food science is still a young field so we need all the information we can get. We shan't pretend to know more about it than we actually do.

example for the best diet for healthy long term weight loss, to my knowledge:

1 liter of water when getting up (possibly with apple cider vinegar which has a mother inside) + roughly 3 to 6 apples throughout day, 1 or two more liters of water; when very active throughout the day possibly a snack around 4pm like dried ginger otherwise skip, between 6 and 8pm brown rice with lentils or with vegetables (i recommend soy sauce or something). this might be 1500-2300 kcals, depending on portion sizes. when you don't want to loose weight, the "raw till 4" principle is still the best, but you can afford to eat more fruit earlier in the day and quicker carbs, like white rice in the evening, otherwise you want to keep blood sugar low, especially in the early day, when most fat is burned, since high blood sugar get's in the way of burning fat. some apples are okay, they are slow carbs, but a huge meal will spike blood sugar, even when it's slow carbs, that's why you spread the calories out in the early day. two chewed bananas at a time, in the morning are okay for weight loss, but a 7-banana smoothie is a very bad idea for a fat person (lean people have better blood sugar regulation).

typical result is one major shit in the morning, after drinking the first water and probably another dump, a little bit later, but i can't remember. apples can be more constipating than bananas, which may result in 2 or 3 small dumps in the morning.

i'm almost sure everything i eat comes out within 24 hours, it's always whole plant food, no added oil, perhaps i have 3 walnuts on odd days, 3 brazil nuts or a table spoon of ground flax seeds with the meal. adding fat to a meal is very much slowing down the stomach empty, so a lot flax seeds with a meal might cause acid reflux, which comes along with slow stomach emptying.

the quality of feces depends a lot on the health of the gut flora. i used to have a lot of borderline-diarrhea, but now i'm okay, but not ideal yet.

what leads to tight ass bricks is aninmal products and i think processed grains/flour. fiber is lofting it all up, not carbs, carbs are digested ;)

Weight loss is one thing, sustainability is another.

Water is good, pretty much the only thing I drink nowadays besides an occasional orange juice. It really is the best complement/accessory to a meal, unless there are other wonder beverages I haven't heard of. Makes things smoother. The only thing that worries me, however, is potential "fluoride" content, which, yes, probably does have beneficial effects on teeth. However, what worries me is large concentrations impeding pineal gland function which, granted, I probably know little actually about. I would like my pineal gland to be in top form, though, so this conflict is most worrisome. Hopefully there's not that much fluoride in our water or the accretion negligibly affects an area I'm concerned about, which indeed I am probably mislead about it's primary functions in the first place. But here are some links/studies:

http://fluoridealert.org/issues/health/pineal-gland/

http://fluoridealert.org/studies/tea03/

Is it wrong to associate water with fluoride toxicity? I need to invest in a high quality filter, probably better than nothing.

Yes, indeed. Rice & lentils can be a filling meal but I currently believe that it can leave the user feeling bloated or full of air - maybe between 6 & 8 is the best time for such a meal?

Apples & oranges are probably good quick hydration devices. Not typically well known for laxative like side effects, however, in apples this is probably due to the carbs & fibers, to a lesser extent the sugars...
Peanuts and some other legumes seem to increase the frequency by at least a day, probably the fats & oils...

However, I see. I think, then, that it could be best to let it all out at the nearest opportunity, if that's how it makes you feel...

I think fluoride is serious bullshit. We don't have that in germany.

My main man Dr Gregor isn't so worried about it though. He is a straight science guy, not in for intuitions.

Brown Rice & Paradina Lentils are rather easy to digest and tasty (both 25 minute cooking time). White rice and red lentils (both 10 minutes) too (goes well with cinnamon and coriander). Various beans are a bit more difficult to digest. Beans must never be undercooked. It's all a matter of your gut flora adapting to it though. Soaking and sprouting (and cooking) can improve digestibility further, but ain't nobody got time for dat.

What produces the most gas is constipation! Which results from poor food combinations. Eating something slow digesting prior to something fast digesting. One reason to eat fruit prior to starch. That doesn't stop me from eating one apple, if i happen to feel hungry just before going to be though.

I don't have a bloated belly ever (when i eat as described) and farts are odorless.

In my experience Preservatives cause bloating. Like dried dates with preservatives. Without them, no problem.

>Peanuts and some other legumes seem to increase the frequency

Sounds more like a case of added fiber, to a western diet full of flour, oil and meat.

Perhaps you should take salt into account. Special salts are used as laxative (super bad idea).

regarding water:

you know stale water? when it gets kinda bland in taste from exposure? that's because oxygen evaporates faster than hydrogen. one might think more free oxygen makes water taste better. now oxygenated water is being sold. a few studies have corroborated the hypothesized taste difference. i'd really like to try but i was in a rush and didn't get the opportunity to.

That would only make sense if water spontaneously decompose.

Dr. Gregor? Seems reassuring but the comments on that page remarkably demonstrate the dilemma itself, of course. I suppose I haven't thoroughly compiled all the facts and speculations but the community overall seems to be divided; those who are reassured and see it as a contemporary medical achievement and those more conspiratorial inclined, who claim new research and information can be available and that they are out to get us by "calcifying" our pineal gland, which actually can seem plausible. This crowd might also understand the reasons for it being in the water supply but may also be aware of overdosing. I think though that certain places have a minute ppm count, thus making this issue nearly nothing to worry about?

Bottom line - newer up to date research is warranted, some of which has occurred already.. People seem to despise the idea of it being added to the supply without much consent; sounds new age but it could be better for people to take their own steps in dental intervention rather than a mass government supply of this is what's good for you. As such, I've seen the most worry that toxic levels promote docility.

I hear beans are good, I know some people who like chilli for the protein content.

I'm sure preservatives cause a few different things. Well actually I hear the various types are more or less okay in modest quantities - they say the leniency of preservatives might induce manufacturers to add extra stuff to foods; more on this later perhaps.

Flour seems like a thing to be weary of, there are hardly any nutrients in it. Or, most commercial flours are straight extractions cleaved of any substance previously available in the wheat or starch it came from. I would, at the very least, shop for non-bleached flour if at all.

Excellent consideration... I would mostly snack on salted peanuts (don't like the taste of unsalted). It turns out the shells and skins are mostly cellulose, pulps, and fibers, which is why they strongly resemble paper. I wonder if this, also, has anything to do with it.

Gut flora on the other hand I've seen linked to a few different semi serious mental conditions. Apparently their thriving is important... Not sure how recent those developments are though. Or if there's anything they prefer. Considering the effects of badly mixed foods this will be something to keep more in mind. I was thinking of the thin line between defined constipation and a minimalist diet.

I haven't really heard of the water thing. Well... I'd be interested in seeing how good it tastes. For what it's worth, hydrogen is known for removing oxygen from a few different compounds.. So it's interesting to see that in a little bit of action.
People refill their water via tap or otherwise and freeze then fridge it to make it taste better. You can actually taste the difference between that and store bought bottled water but many people claim our water is actually pretty clean compared to other places' water.
