On specifics in general

Sometimes I get lost in the trees and lose sight of the forest. Other times I get so wrapped up in admiring the forest that I forget it has trees in it.

I wonder how I might go about looking at concepts and generalities and making decisions on a case-by-case basis at the same time.

Any ideas?

You could try approaching things from a generalist and specific perspectives whenever you learn something. It might help to put the general stuff into one column and the specifics into another. Then just sit back and let your mind play with what you have come up with. Brainstorming and following tangents is more of an (Ne?) thing, but it always helps me to organize and explore my thoughts. I like watching them develop on paper, and trying to figure out how I got to where I am from the original starting point.
