I'm looking for a laptop, I'm pretty much going to be using it just for web design, photo editing, and video editing (using Adobe CS4 software), and some programming . I also need something that's pretty cheap (the less expensive I can get away with the better). My current computer (which is about 5 years old) can still handle most of what I need to do all ready, so I don't need something all that fancy, but I do need something that's reliable, and I don't know what good brands for laptops are. Course eventually I'll build a new desktop, and that I will probably go all out top of the line for, but I'm just a step above broke right now so that will have to wait.

Macbook!!!

Macbook!! Macbook!! MacBook!!

If you get a PC, you will either be doing maintenance on it most of the time, or you will have a slow computer eventually with all the internet use...

Get a Macbook. They last longer naturally so that you do not have to spend so much time with security and maintenance...

Re: need a laptop recomendation

I've used both Macs and PCs, and personally much prefer PCs for Desktops, I've considered getting one for a laptop but all the ones I've seen are more money than I want to be spending on a laptop at this time, Macs do tend to really be on the expensive side.

As far as HP, I've had a few HP computers, and have just had really bad luck with HP's products. But I have heard ASUS is good, no experience with them personally, but I'll definitely look into them.

Macs cost more then PCs and have lower specs. Windows 7 works great and doesn't hog the resources like Vista did.

If CS4 is going to be the most CPU intensive program your running you should be able to get a decently cheap one. Unless you're planning on editing huge photos with a 10MP camera or something.

Toad had a pretty good choice, ASUS is good brand. I'm actually typing this on an ASUS desktop.

I went ahead and got a laptop. I almost went with a super cheap Asus with an I3, but the other specs weren't quite what I was looking for, especially the graphics card. So instead I went with a ASUS with 6gigs of ram, and a 1gig Nvidia graphics card. It has a pentium dual core, not as good as an I3, but still nice, and I couldn't find anything with both an I3 and all the other goodies I wanted, and nothing else this good within my price range. It's pretty nice.
Thankfully it has Windows 7 and not Vista, all though if I get a new PC it's definitely going to have both 7 and XP (my current desktop just has XP).

Any tips on proper laptop care? I know they overheat more easily than desktops.

This thing is also built like a tank, it's almost as big and heavy as a PS3, it's almost a small desktop really.
