According to the Wikipedia he is. However nearly every forum types him as ISTJ. So, assuming that whoever decided he is INTP can anyone give some evidence that he might possibly be that type? Of course you will have to look beyond the Top Gear thing. Thanks.

James May I thin INTJ, but they get him to 'play' an ISTJ role for Top Gear.

The others I think:

Jeremy Clarkson - INTJ
Richard Hammond - ENFP
Stig - ISTP

ISTP.
Because he's into the way engines and things work. He's pretty hands on and if you watch Top Gear he's obviously a petrol head but he's always the one with his head under the hood sorting things out. His show about toys is obsessed with the ingenious ways toys work rather than being about how fun to play with the toys were.
He is too comfortable talking to the camera to be an INTP. Now people will probably think I am far too general when talking about types, but have you ever seen an INTP - apart from when acting - being comfortable on camera.
He has a introverted thinkers face and always returns to it.
He likes to describe the mechanics of things with his hands, which is usually lost on me when ISTP's describe things like that to me.
He likes the sound of his own voice.
I've seen an interview in which he describes the physiological sensations in his body to an engine, like being part machine himself.
He's a bit mad professorish in style so I think that's why people might say INTP, but he is quite rakish, Se?. Hipster? ISTP I know is a hipster.
Other candidates for ISTP-dom at the moment are Nick Offerman from Parks and Recreation and Adam from Adam's Farm in BBC's Countryfile (for all the Countryfile afficionados on the INTPforum).
And comedian Frankie Boyle.

Far away from All This
Jeremy Clarkson: ESTJ - He likes cars (ST) and has his own TV show (EJ)
Richard Hammond: INFP - Likes innovative, different cars and vivid imagination (N), quieter than Jeremy and James (I), disorganized (P), a bit more excitable and less down-to-earth than the others, idealist. (NF)
James May: ISTP - Likes cars (ST), quiet and doesn't always express thoughts (I), seems disorganised (P)
Stig: ISTx - Hard to type, he never talks or does anything but drive.

I love cars and motorbikes too.

Except, lately I have been a bit afraid of what I purchased.

I can't put my finger on James May.

He seems to dual between ISTJ and ISTP because of how he has some of his behavior governed by the production team of the show.

For a guy who looks like he likes slow practical cars he has driven a Bugatti Veyron at highly dangerous speeds and has deadly fast motorbikes. He also has a tonne of technical and abstract concepts whirling in his head.
