My mother is ridicolous.

idk what her personality type is. all I know is shes a hypocrite.

well, I didn't live with her till I was 13 for some personal reasons and its rather mundane to talk about it so we'll skip it.

so she asked me about the girl that she saw me with the other day and I told her that it was a girl named "Sofia."

I told her were kind of dating but its not a big deal yet.

she then asked... "what race is she?"

so i replied...

"afghan... she's muslim."

and my mum went nuts!

she only ever wants to see me with a spanish girl or a christian/catholic asian girl.

i just find it hypocritical and annoying cause she has muslim friends her self and does that mean that she secretly despises them?

thats one of the things that I hate about people, being plastic.

p.s im of spanish decent but my mum married an asian/portugese man, hence the only exception to why i can date asians.

shes just so discriminative. its ridicolous.
i never knew she was that close-minded.

Yes, of course not, you are trained not to:P If this was you writing a hundred years ago, you would perhaps address me as a good, pious christian telling me how, following up from beliefs adapted from your parents and closest society, negroes should be treated as what they are - animals (or any other moral sentiment going against your current attitudes).

I have a hard time giving moral judgements considered virtuous credit (other than for the potential good it serves society as a whole) as I think it's in the rarest of cases where they have been arrived at autonomously, and not just the accidental result of circumstance (whereby indoctrination is it's mechanism); someone reciting what they are trained to - like a parrot saying it's name.

Which reminds me, I want a parrot (no, not a metaphorical one) someday:)

How about a feathered playback recorder clamped to your shoulder?
It won't fly away or poop down your back, a space pirate's best friend.

Would it have decent A.I.?
If so, as long as it isn't programmed by you I'd consider it:P
How about a Furby™
Already had a Furby!:P My little brother had one as well, so we had them (the furbies) play games with each other. Oh, and they could play hide and seek as well. With that said, the novelty quickly wore off, so I found them mostly quite irritating and 0.5 dimensional.

Looking back, I was greatly fond of my Tamagotchi. Anyone remember those? Mine was a chicken, and you had to wait 5 minutes or so, when you first got it, for the egg to hatch and from there it was a continues thing having to feed them, play with them and make sure they got to bed at a suiting time. I don't think my mom appreciated it too much as she had to babysit two virtual pets whenever me or my little brother was away. Kinda funny, when I think about it:D One day when I was away, my mother, upon me coming home again, had the difficult task of reporting that, sadly, it had past away. It had just reached adulthood, so she probably forgot to feed it, but I can't really blame her:)

I've been looking for a Tamogchi esque iPhone app, but so far I haven't found anything similar :(
(if anyone know of any, please share!)

Diversity (not to be confused with equality) is by far our most undervalued resource.

She'll get over it. *If you're ever to the point where you're seriously dating, you should catalyse her acceptance by organizing a get together with both sides (both sides should be individually warned of eachother's faults by the respective party in the relationship, i.e. you tell your side and she tells hers, just to keep interactions polite).

*Show them you're legit interested in a long term thing, and it'll be extremely difficult for either side to hate you for it.

Despite all of the proclamations of innocence, all humans employ prejudice as a means to categorize - even liberals and atheists, for example:

Her personality type is Christian.

They're crazy

Generalization based upon a single trait, is enough information to place an entire population into the category of Faceless Them. If we are honest, we will admit that harboring prejudice and constructing stereotypes is just so much easier than the alternative of withholding judgement and getting to know all of the faceless, giving them faces with names attached.

Personally I hold prejudiced against Muslim males, however, I don't discount them totally, simply because of a single trait - for I would be cheating myself...

As far as the OP...
It does not matter as much where a girl is from, as where she is now and where she is going. One could always pretend to be rescuing her from her past to silence criticism...

My parents can't get over their bias against Latinos. They still have this "They took our jobs" mentality.

Those kind of people are one of my pet peeves. Given how I live in the South, this leads to problems.

Yeah I heard it was bad there... Why is that, remnants of slavery mentality or something?

I don't know, really. I'm thinking it's something more like socially encouraged xenophobia, though.

Yes. I always feel skeptical when someone is emphatically against racism ("oh my gawsh, I just hate racism so much!"). Especially when they aren't equally upset by other types of prejudice. Lying is worse, if you ask me; it's a premeditated conscious attempt to secretly give others a disadvantage. Prejudice is just a poorly supported belief. Also parrots are cool.

Well step back a second and look at the real issue... why would you want an afghan over an asian girl who's probably a virgin

Just kidding. Um. Your mother sees you as an extension of herself, and wants to own you like that. That's basically just what it comes down to. Find some way to slice the umbilical cord, in her mind too.
