INTJs are at their best when their humor is part serious, like when they want to go on a whiny rant about something or someone that sucks and decide to spice it up to da max letting out a hysterical flood of bitter sarcasm so that it becomes awesome instead of just regular whining.

The INTJs I know are funny and joke around a lot. They use a lot of historical and literary references, quote Monty Python a lot, and enjoy surrealism and satire. They enjoy PDQ Bach.
The INTPs I know are funny but don't joke around as much as the INTJs. We like lots of word play and cultural references (art and music), quote Monty Python a lot, and enjoy surrealism and satire. We really love PDQ Bach.
Brotosaurie does have a point about the schadenfreude.
Both types, in my experience, thought "The Men Who Stare at Goats" was really funny, but I know a lot of people of other types who didn't think it was funny at all. I'd love to know how that movie was received by different types.

Maybe it's partly cultural or who you know or what circles you travel in. The INTJs I know IRL do have a sense of humor but aren't nearly as funny as the INTPs I know; they are more serious and don't joke around as much. (Then again, I know many of them from the IT industry, so they're more serious/tech-minded.)
Monty Python seems to have a few INTJs in their lineup, although I think Gilliam's an ENTP sort.
I agree personally with my own love for wordplay, cultural ref (usually absorbed as I go through life). PDQ Bach rocks, I learned about him when I was in middle school and my dad had some records.
I did see "The Men Who Stare at Goats." I found it amusing and enjoyed the tone and humor style, but I have never ever felt an inclination to watch it again (whereas I've watched "A Fish Called Wanda" zillions of times).
I remember hating movies like, "There's Something about Mary," while everyone else in the world (non-INTx's) seemed to think it was the funniest thing they'd ever seen.
What about Juno or Rushmore? Or even Scott Pilgrim? How did people respond to those movies?

But, yes, culture, age, profession, and so on definitely define humor, at least some.
That's almost sort of Monty Python, though, isn't it? But we're completely agreed on the quality, and I also enjoyed "Fierce Creatures." What about Mel Brooks ("Young Frankenstein," "The Producers," "Get Smart," etc.)? I think he's pretty funny.
Oh, yes, I hated that movie. I couldn't see any appeal at all. It was very annoying hearing people rave about it.

I didn't really like Fierce Creatures much. I could only sit through it once. The magic was gone.
Early Mel Brooks was really funny -- probably Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein were my faves, with a few bits from History of the World. Oh yeah, and how could I forget "High Anxiety?" Harvey Korman.. OMG. [I'll note I'm a big fan of Carol Burnette & Com, too.]
But most of his later movies are terrible. I don't even much like Spaceballs, aside from a few throwaway jokes ("I'm Barf, a mawg -- half-man, half-dog. I'm my own best friend!" or Dark Helmet dominating his Princess Leia doll, ROFL). Men in Tights was dreadful.
I was mostly asking, in terms of tone. They're definitely a tonal shift. There are various types of humor, so I was curious what people found funny.
Or what about Sasha Baron Cohen [subversive] movies, for example? Another tonal change.
Or Sarah Silverman?
What about "Meet the Parents?" There was a movie I thought had a few funny bits, but not nearly as funny as the rest of the world considered it to be...

Did anyone else see "The Aristocrats" documentary? About the infamous joke which isn't really funny in itself but basically it's what you do with it that counts?
I think it's rather cool to see the permutations of the joke based on the personality of the comedian. And I thought Bob Saget was really funny -- not because I like his delivery, but that he kept laughing (embarrassed) at himself for how disgusting his rendition was, especially because I knew the subtext was that his public persona is "the dad from Full House" and "the guy who does Funniest Home Videos" which is so tame as to leave me ill... It's like Walt Disney doing a porn flick.

IMO, humor is one of the main ways to deliver truth in ways that get past people's defenses. Our best comedians act as truthsayers and prophets and sages. Not sure how you could miss that.

An INTP I know loves to laugh about word-play jokes. He likes to quote movie and tv characters, laughing about them while characterizing them.
Another INTP I know doesn't tend to laugh about humor, but he does make interesting remarks that come close to humor in the form of irony. I can't remember people actually laughing at his occasional ironic remarks, though.
One INTJ enjoys watching funny tv shows, like The Office, but, besides watching comedies, I haven't heard or seen him make humor as such.
