Personality Junkie has been coming out with some insightful articles recently.

Why IPs may struggle to know their personality type

I've had a hard time finding out for the reasons spelled out here. First I thought I was an INFJ, then INTJ, finally later in life realized that I absolutely was INTP. I certainly 'indulged my inferior (Fe)' earlier in life as a musician.

When i first did some tests (just online tests so....), i did the tests multiple times and came up with different match's (none of which were INTP). So i looked at a couple of alternative match's (change 1 letter see if that matched better). Once i read the description of INTP i new i had found my type.

I agree. Something is confusing. IcyCold put out a number of articles also. How to put these all together? I have a theory and wrote it up to post as a new thread. But I thought it would be too dogmatic for me or not expressed right and it would be dismissed. (Not ready for prime time.) Then I thought, "to hell with it ... post something." Then there is the choice of studying all those links ... some I left hanging not finishing them. I need advice, lol.

They were clear and precise to me, much more so than most others. What do you find confusing?

@NinjaSurfer

The gist was that INTPs and INFPs sometimes skip over their middle two functions (i.e., Ne and Si for both INTP and INFP) and utilize their underdeveloped inferior function (Fe and Te for INTP and INFP, respectively) due to needs, duties, or life circumstances.

I gave it a once through and it seemed to assume the reader had a lot of pre-existing knowledge about cognitive functions;

when it started discussing inferior and auxiliary functions and referenced the INTP "leading" functions as "Judging" functions it lost me as well, at the beginning;

I felt the article made more claims than gave specific examples to support its claims, and I wasn't able to relate too much as an INTP myself, but it could be more to do with my lack of familiarity with the cognitive functions; it was probably written for a more knowledgeable audience, it just somewhat fried my brain; I think because it also talked about other types that I'm not totally familiar with, other "IxxP" types

without a specific character in mind, it's hard for me to imagine an unfamiliar type;

but, if there's a popular character I can relate to, I can much more easily relate to a description of that type-- like one friend told me that ISTP's are like this coder character in The Matrix:
