Canada, eh?
I've been wondering about something, and I doubt it'll come across coherently as I haven't slept in roughly 30 hours, but here goes.

I'm good at shortening other people's explanations into something nice and concise. Someone will ramble something off to me, and I'll repeat it 'in a nutshell' and they'll go, "Yeah! Exactly." And yet I'm not very good at explaining my own thoughts concisely. Which I find odd. I tend to go more in depth or detail than necessary because I feel like people won't understand. Not out of arrogance - more so a lack of confidence, probably. Is this a frequent problem for INTPs?

Also. On a potentially related note, I have this habit of...offhandedly observing people. I don't realize how much I've noticed, about a person for example, until I suddenly have a conclusion/theory that seems very accurate drawn. Which doesn't strike me as very Ti + Ne. Which I also thought was odd.

Anyways. Can any INTPs relate? Or explain function-wise

I can likewise summarise other peoples points wuite nicely but when it comes to mine, oh boy. Starts off a a mess ill try and explain the mess and will come out as gibberish. Ill try and explaim the gibberish and will turn into a ramble of incoherent nonsense. I then proceed to realise everyones left already.

They're two different things.

With the first, you are summarizing -- figuring out the underlying concept of the data. That's what we do.

with the second, you are communicating -- trYing to get a point across-- and if they aren't giving you cues or you are not reading the cues, you will want to add more data until they communicate they understand in a way that you perceive. But you're not in their head, so you keep giving them more data to make sure they can follow.

Also. On a potentially related note, I have this habit of...offhandedly observing people. I don't realize how much I've noticed, about a person for example, until I suddenly have a conclusion/theory that seems very accurate drawn. Which doesn't strike me as very Ti + Ne. Which I also thought was odd.

Why? It's the same as the the first example above... you are collecting data until you realize it coalesces into a concept.

Addendum to Jennywocky's explanation: Your processes are not necessarily taking place with your conscious awareness or direction. Don't you ever wake up with the solution to a problem formed in your head? Same thing. You're observing people, but exactly how is not just the listing of the details, it's the assembly of those details into patterns and sequences and in context. That's all going on in the background of your mind, and suddenly POOF you've got what amounts to an insight.

It's a wonderful thing when it's working right.

The way that I approach the problem, is by allowing the other person to make the connections. Otherwise you are telling them what to believe and people resist so much that they don't hear what you say. Just give them little bits of your idea, and then let them tell you what details need elaborating.
