I think that Weird Al Yankovic is an XNTP. It is probable that he is ENTP, but INTP is certainly a possibility.

casually playing guitar in my mental arena
Anyone's capable of anything, but personally, that's the last thing I would want to be. I'd prefer to be a musician that's famous for being anonymous, like Buckethead or Maynard James Keenan.

Alan Wilder (ex. Depeche Mode member, currently in Recoil) could possibly be an INTP...he's quite innovative with his music...

I'm pretty sure Isaac Brock is an xNTP.. all of his lyrics are about philosophy, space or existance. It's hard to tell whether he's introverted or extroverted though. I'm guessing I for now.

the ideal way to be is to be the 'Mystical Musical Genius'. not a millionare or a popstar but a Creator, an Artist, a Visionary.

Does anyone know much about Avenged Sevenfold, i think the drummer The Rev could be INTP (although a partier, in any interview he is extremely introverted) i can relate to him on many levels

I love Modest Mouse and that thought occured to me the other day. I think if I were a lyricist my lyrics would resemble his most.

Also, I think he'd be an I. He hides from people after gigs so he doesn't have to speak for the band -- you know, to music journalists and stuff.

He's probably an I then, but I heard that he could switch dramatically between avoidant and sociable because of his bipolarity. I could be wrong though.

Im a 100% sure Rick J. Rubin is an INTP, in fact, i think he is one of the most notable ones from our time, he has all of the characteristics, and he is one of the most influent people from the last 30 years, the guy is not really a virtuoso on any instrument, he knows about all of them though, he lets the band when he is producing to make decisions, he is more of an advisor (an increibly talented one, if the man says something will work, its almost certain it will), he doesnt really show his face a lot, he does most of his work alone, and if you look at his pictures, he has this mistique sort of dreamy sight, he has produced from Slayer, to The Mars Volta, to The Red Hot Chili Peppers, to the Spice Girls, then to Metallica, he has given up some projects, like American Records, like he is just not intrested anymore, nearly every man that has been infront of a cammera talking about working together has called him in one way or another "werid", some might argue that he is a bit too much into "speculative" stuff to be a logic fan like an INTP, but perphas he is a creator of systems, not a follower, well, thats just my way of seing it, if there is any good example of an INTP thats him on the world of music, i was thinking of Thom Yorke from radiohead, i know he is the leader of the band, but if you look at him recording or doing any of that stuff, he looks pretty bored and terribly impatient, he allways says the recording process can really get him pissed, he writtes most of his stuff alone, he seems to be indifferent about everything on the interviews, until the interviewer touches a subject wich envolves his principles, and he seems to think a lot about everything, perphas the difference between him and rick is the fact that thom is forced to deal with people and take the lead more than he would like to(he seems to be a bit of an angry guy most of the time), i mean, ive never seen him litteraly claming that role on any interview, and its usually jonny greenwood and the rest of the guys who take his songs to life, until he takes the solo role, again an INTP quality "its all or nothing when it comes to attention", lets also add the fact that most of the band members look pretty introvert, if not all of them, and their relationship is quite inpersonal, any fan would probably get what im saying, well, now that ive finished my superlongboringwhataprickass essey on this subject, im going to have a cookie.

:)

I'm convinced the rapper Eyedea is either INTP or ENTP. Freestyling seems more ENTP (which he's good at) but his studio music is very INTP.

in this thread.. are we just naming musical artists we like and assuming they are intp?
i mean.. cliff burton? what leads you to the conclusion he is an intp?
i am fairly certain kurt cobain is NOT intp.

i think layne staley is MUCH closer to intp than cobain, but i have a feeling he is
infp. (if you watch interviews where he is high, he seems extroverted, but if you actually know anything about him other than that he was a signer.. he was VERY introverted, id say he would score at least a 90% on the introversion test.)

what is all the reasoning behind maynard being intp?
i doubt he is.. he seems to (not trying to offend anyone) actually desire attention, but through odd ways.. like he wants the "underground" and "hey look im unique" label.

on a more realistic note:
joe satriani maybe?
i havent watched interviews with him, but he is very good at guitar, and almost all of his songs have like an outer-space/alien feel to him, taps very much into how i feel.

Shostakovich. I think.

I would think he was a J, based on his obsession with cleanliness and synchronizing his clocks. Even a F, too.

I'm not sure though, I haven't studied him enough.

I don't quite understand how music can be INTP.

Music can express INTP tendencies in structure, obscurity of content (lyrics, musical style, instruments), and purpose.

I'd say fugues are probably more likely to be composed by NTPs than other types.

Different functions express differently.
