just wondering, does INTP's here have any INTP friends in meatspace?

i just found out that one of my acquaintances is an INTP. i say it bumped up our friend meter a notch. we spent the entirety of first period talking about myers-briggs, and spirituality, and the nature of humanity, and incarceration vs. mental rehabilitation, and a whole lot of shit, and it was pretty fantabulous. if she had a dick, i'd be allllll over that. (loveyoubaby!)

but yeah, just sort of wondering -- it's actually a pretty cool experience. it's nice, feeling like someone can actually follow all my awkward thought tangents and stuff.

anyway, your experiences?

(by the way, i totally edited this post to seem less creepy and stalkerish now that i know she's here. tee-hee.)

I used to know one or two back in high school... we'd talk endlessly during lunch break about science, theories, crazy ideas, etc. But then in college I kept hanging around the ES types... and in all my classes, I never made an effort to make new friends. When I think back on it, I think the girl in my chemistry lab that sat directly across from me was an INTP. We didn't ever really talk to each other but when we did, it wasn't about superficial stuff... more like the theory of what we were doing. We both kept very much to ourselves and didn't engage in small talk with anyone. Just as quickly as she appeared for each lab, she disappeared.. never to be seen until the next lab. That was the same for me.

Fuck, I wish I tried to get to know her.

The girl I just met and that I am about to go a second date with, is either an INTP or INFJ. Either way, I think we hit it off well. Generally when I meet girls I have nothing to say and it never goes well. With her, I instantly felt comfortable and talked non-stop about theoretic stuff. She seemed to get a kick out of, though probably not as much as me.

*dies of envy*

I supposedly have an INTP friend. But I doubt the flaky facebook test, I think she's INFP. But the female INTP is something so unfamiliar that I might *gasp* be mistaken. I am still in the process of figuring it out though.

Most of the people I hang out with at school are NTs, though I do get a kick out of S types as well. Plus, they're good to have around so I don't get lost. ;)

So... Yeah, I have a couple of INTP friends, a couple of INFP and some INFJ. I'm betting a lot of this has to do with the fact that I'm in a higher math/science stream. Most of the guys are NT. Alot of the girls are ENF.

There are a few aquaintances I would peg as INTP, but there's no way to be certain.

I too know someone IRL that took a facebook test and got INFP, then took another and got INTP, so they're somewhere along those lines. We get along pretty well, but she still lives like an hour and a half a way, so I don't really hang out with her, and we're not close, we just met once in person and chat online every now and then :P

I just found out today my best friend is a INTP as well. I had a suspicion we were alike, since we are almost a force as one when we are together. Some friends are intimidated (we dont try, we just have fun). He took the test and he was the same, crazy huh? We have been best friends for like 6 years now, met him in high school. He was one of the first people I met there

i do not have a INTP friend in "meatspace", in fact many of my "meatspace" friends sometimes joke that it would be funny to have a world full of "Darbys" the closest i have is an INTJ friend, and generally we just sit and talk all the time and ignore everybody else, until our friend with Auspergers(sp?) comes over and decides to mutilate whatever conversation we were having, sadly friend #2 has not taken the MBTI test, although imcurious as to what type he is....

Hey baby! Hi posties!
I thank you for the hug comment. Your hugs are better though ;P

It's true that we clicked in a way I haven't ever experienced with our people. I wonder if it's because we're fellow INTPs?

Okay random but: I think it'd be cool to be a dino and stomp around eating other dinos. Because I'd be a carnivore. Sorry shoeless. I wouldn't eat you cuz' your too cool to be eaten.

What's with all these INTPs in Germany? You folks are lucky; I've not met anyone other than those associated with this site who I've even thought close to INTP, school, work, life, internet, anywhere!

I feel lonely, no hugs for me. :(

At the end of our lease my best friend and roommate wants to move abroad. Somewhere in Europe seems like a big possibility, Amsterdam moreso. I'd go, but I just don't want to commit to that big of a change yet, know what I mean?

Honestly, I don't know what I'll do when the time finally comes. I've been closer to him than anyone over the past several years... Heck, I don't even know anyone else outside my family as any more than acquaintance anymore. He's an ENTJ; most social situations I look to him to figure out what I'm supposed to do, or let him do the talking so I can get to know who we're with better before I open myself up.

I'll let everyone in on a truth...

I'm scared shitless.

Currently my best friend is an INTP, he actually more or less got me into this personality theory shit in the first place. (Maybe on this forum? Ionno, I keep telling him to join...)
It's pretty awesome just being able to brain dump anything on your mind to a person and have them be able to roll with it.
We're fucking weirdos too, will go out on random adventures and mess with people along the way, it's quite fun.

*pouts in an overly dramatic way* I REALLY want a dinosaur... And do my eyes deceive me or is that a stargate I see in Causeless's (say that 5 times fast) profile pic? Nice to meet a fellow fan... I think. And editing your post doesn't help much as I saw it in the first place M (love to spell your name, but afraid I'd get it wrong). No worries, I can be creeper-ish too. Isn't this an awesome smiley? :beatyou:

Wouldn't it be awesome if the world was ruled by an INPT? I mean, the world would be so much more efficient.

Yay, I realize this has nothing to do with the topic but...

Apparently I need to move to Germany.

And I have to wonder, on the creeper front, does EVERYONE here go in and explore the profile and recent posts of people that interest them? I've been a member of a few different forums over the years... none of them ever even came close to the widespread use of visitor messages we have going on here. :D

I don't know, it's not particularly common for me to go around asking my friends "INTP" considering the last one I did that to looked at me like I had just asked her what the square root of a Hippo was, though I do have one friend who makes a habbit out of standing on tables and reciting Shakespear...yeah...definately not INTP.

INFJ's make great friends, at least the ones I've encountered. They're the only ones that can actually get me to talk about my feelings, and not feel incredibly awkward afterwards.

I can't say I have any INTP friends, but I imagine they're easier to overlook then some other types so I could have missed someone. After evaluating my two closest friends, I reckon they're both along the lines of ESFJ, although I don't think I could ever evaluate someone and be completely confident that my conclusion is right - hell, the tests always show me as INFP so getting them to take a test doesn't have guaranteed results either. It's obvious that I'm drawn to my opposites though. Maybe that's because I have yet to find someone I directly relate to.

Actually, I just remembered I do have an INTP friend. I feel bad for not remembering. I met him through a mutual friend, and I spent almost a year talking to him through Facebook without ever seeing him in person. We quickly realized we were incredibly similar in personality, and we joke about this a lot. He's a little more reserved than I am, though. I've only seen him in person once, at a party a few weekends ago.

Also, my dad's an INTP and that has contributed immensely to my intellectual development. I'm sure you can imagine. I'll ask him a question and four hours of constant conversation later we'll be happily talking about the nature of morality. That's not an exaggeration, and it happens frequently. I've been really lucky there.

Totally, when I first got into MBTI there was a number of people I suspected must be INTPs too because were so alike, it turned out every one of them was an INFJ.

My coworker and I have always gotten along real well. We have long discussions about all sorts of things. Me and him will talk about something and then both go home and look it up for hours and come back the next day with new information about it. It's fun lol. Not until a couple weeks ago though, did I come across this personality type business, and I determined I was an INTP and I figured he probably was too, so I told him to go take tests and figure out what he was, and it was INTP for sure. Good times!

I've known quite a few INTP's in real life, and I'm not especially good friends with any of them. I think it is because our mutual Introverted nature causes us to not conversate much. My brother-in-law is an INTP and I hardly ever talk to him. I am much more drawn to extraverts. I let them carry the conversation while I analyze.

I have two INTP friends personally. One I tend to get along with easily and one that tends to aggravate me, but annoyance is a small price to pay for intelligent conversation.

One of my best friends is a fellow INTP. We share the same interests and unfortunately the same endless sense of Nihilism. I'm glad though because he's far more socially mature than I am, and has an almost endless patience when helping me through my own problems.

I just found out the other day that my brother is an INTP. I didn't really have any idea. We're not very close, but it seems like we're a good deal more different than similar. I'm not entirely sure how - he's just distinct, somehow. He is 15 and I am 17.

Here is my family

Mother - ISFJ
Father - INTP
Brother - INTP
Me - INTP

Uh, holy crap. That is kind of ridiculously improbable.

I know only one self-identified INTP. I'm not sure if I've met others, although I think it's likely. The one I've mentioned I never suspected was anything like me - until we started talking a lot.

It's kind of weird... I know more INTJs than INTPs. I suppose it may be the first move thing:

INTPs dislike making the first move and tend to mirror the emotional content of the other person. A jolly person will quickly bring the INTP out of his shell, as much as that is possible, while a serious person will find a serious INTP looking back at him.

i bet you and your mother really dont get along.. do you?
my mother is an ISFJ.. and its like a warzone..

i kind of have one friend who says he is an intp. he has some traits i see.. but im not so sure that he is. he seems VERY extroverted... and he often initiated conversations with me when i hardly know him. he takes ALLOT of initiative. one thing that i dislike about him, is it seems he will often agree with me on things, when i think he just tries to agree in order for me to like him.

My mother and I get along very well, I think. Better than my father and I, usually. It's simply a function of the division of labours in the family - my father is not the nurturer.

I am surprised that you found such conflict with your ISFJ mother... isn't the tendency of both the INTP and the ISFJ (but the latter in particular) to avoid conflict? I know my mother will, in most circumstances.

maybe your mother is mistyped.. or maybe mine.. idk.
when you say they try to avoid conflict: it seems like my mother is always trying to start conflict.
my mother is always doing things to piss me off.. just to piss me off.
she always finds something to yell about.. will yell at me for the decisions i make - and would have yelled at me even i had taken the other option.
she even yells at me for doing what she told me to do.
she never considers anything i have to say.. she hardly ever even listens - when somethings i say may perfect sense. (i think allot of that has to do with the S).
if everything isnt EXACTLY as she would see it, she throws a fit. she can NEVER be wrong - even when proven so.
she will even state things to me as fact that she KNOWS i disagree with.. and if i dont agree with her.. she gets pissed.
she is EXTREMELY manipulative.
i try to avoid conflict, but she just always is in my face.. and after a while i get sick of being pushed.

I usually hang out with people who are organised (they organise me) and also extroverts. It is fun to chat with an INTP, but it's like being in a dream. When the conversation ends, life has gone on and you've missed the bus or become lost!!

He might have been mistyped.

I'm really starting to think this is genetic though. I mean, you have my family which is all intuitive except for my dad (ISTP) and then my mom's siblings which is split perfectedly between two NJs and two SPs.

And then compare that to my dad's family which is all sensors, or my ESTP friend's family, also all sensors, and these are both huge families.

I have a friend I recently found out was an INTP.

She spent the night for the first time.

We found out that, other than our personality, we have absolutely nothing in common.

The entire night was filled with awkward silences, followed by strange bouts of awkward laughter. :|

That's been mostly my experience with other INTPs. I know quite a few of them, but we have virtually nothing to talk about unless there's an extovert around to get things going. Luckily the dorm room next door has an ENTP who likes being the center of attention, along with another E of some sort, so we can hang out in there and there's not much of a problem. We know an ENFP who moves things along too, though.

The only way I can see INTP-INTP friendships working is if you either have the same interests (or at least largely overlapping ones), or else lots of respect for each others' areas of thought, so that you're each interested when the other one gets talking about the things they know.

One of my friends is an ISFJ and we get along just fine... better over the computer than in person though. I don't think I have any INTP friends though. I'm still trying to get people to take the test, but I just doubt it. I am in INTP girl, and I think that it would be pretty rare to find another one. It is possible though, I suppose. :/
