maybe i'm wrong about what's the better choice. it boils down to two factors:
1. innate perception psychology and optical ergonomics. i have the idea, impression or habit that darker things are more readily discerned as foreground, object of focus and interest. maybe it's about daylight as basic condition for visual input, with more complex and dynamic objects typically assuming darker shaded hues against the background canvas of sky, field, desert, etc.
2. to the contrary, it makes sense that a screen should light up the important details rather than background static. this efficiency concern goes beyond simple economy, since it potentially connects with more future-proof perceptual heuristics. on the other hand the very paradigm of important details relies on the archaic innate perceptual heuristics. what, other than adherence to norms of vast boring geographical areas, stops us from making everything important?
my Ji-Ne prefers trailing off into some obscure navelgazing spiral of shame and guilt to reaching a firm and operationally viable conclusion on the matter. self-mockery prevails.
