I have this thing for open doors..

I don't know how common my little quirk is, but I have this thing for doors always being closed. If it's a family gathering where people are bustling in and out, I don't even pay attention to it, but if I'm in class or in somebody's room, especially my room, if the door isn't closed I feel like I'll go crazy. Usually I don't go crazy though, because I get up and shut it, or the teacher does.

I.. don't know why. Anybody have any... comment on this? xD

Jokes. Hmm. When I was little I used to have this thing where if I was sad I'd go to the nearest corner. Or if there wasn't a corner I would crouch down. Is that similar. No not really.


Some sort of extreme claustrophobia, though not of small spaces but rathere...not...fully enclosed ones? Do windows being open do the same thing?

I have a similar issue, but I think it's not as extreme as yours. Our house was built during WWII in Germany, so it's badly isolated and really drafty. So whenever somebody doesn't close a door the room will get cold really quickly. I have little problems with cold rooms but I seem to be really sensitive for drafts. When not at home I don't go mad, if the door isn't closed, but I do sometimes get a bit annoyed...

Yes same thing I can't focus unless my door is closed. When people enter or there's a chance of them entering, everything is thrown off and I then have to begin again, usually from a different chain of thought.

It also gives me a feeling of solidarity and security, if I were to apply instinctual knowledge to it, I'd say I'm protecting my territory.

YES. That's exactly it. Like just a couple of hours ago I was watching a movie with my friend in her room, and the door was closed. Somebody came in and I didn't mind, but when they left the door was LEFT OPEN.

I was too comfortable to go and close it, and I was watching a movie so it was easily forgotten about.

But if I was talking to her or something and I was actually looking around the room, that door would have been SHUT.

I just feel like it's too easy for people to intrude on me, and I like being alone and I love privacy. My dad has a tendency to follow me around and ask me questions, and he's rarely here and he's the only one who does that, but when he does that I literally feel like my head is about to explode.

It wouldn't literally explode though.

There is a certain feeling of security when a door is closed. Also, you obtain a small amount of control over the room when the door is shut. That's why teachers shut their doors. Well, that and because they don't want distractions...but that's about control as well I think.

I knew a girl once who was so shy she couldn't bring herself to open doors into rooms where she thought people in power might be. (such as the teacher's lounge) I wonder if perhaps her fear was one half exposing herself and one half a fear of the repercussions of wresting control from whoever was behind the door.

Clearly the solution is never to get pissed off.

Whoa. I feel the same way. However (call it a sixth sense) I can feel when the door is open even if I'm not looking. I'd just wake up in the middle of the night because I know it's open. I once told my gf at the time to do a test. I put a blanket over myself and strapped on headphones and had her open and close the door. I was 100% right 98% of the time. The times I was wrong, I really wasn't. I usually need a waiting period of about 10 seconds, but I performed the guess in less time, so it threw off my senses.
