I want to not care. And I try to not care. But if I think someone is a generally reasonable person then I'll usually immediately believe what they say and realize that what they said was wrong later. And of course there is comfort in this kind of trust but it's also irrational so I want to not.
And I'm finding myself in constant competition to seem competent to other people.
And I want to not but no amount of rationalization has completely gotten me out of respecting esteem.

Esteem is important, I don't think you can "get over it", but certainly one must beware overestimating people and their knowledge. A healthy amount of critical suspicion is good to maintain, even if it's kept just to yourself. If you find yourself agreeing too easily with someone, it might be too good to be true. :phear:

Perhaps your sense of competition to be deemed competent is due to your own insecurity in regards to said competence? Does the need to prove it comes from within or without?

You're being quite vague on this, Brain.

When you are thinking the thoughts and feeling the feels, allow them to float around. Resisting them will make it worse in the long run, and you won't learn how to deal with them.

How to go from there depends on the individual. You can analyze why. Make humor of it, exaggerate the thoughts. Accept that you are thinking something undesirable right now, but that this doesn't need to be a part of you forever. Etc. The difficulty lies in how to convert something potentially destructive into something more helpful and constructive.

Just think of yourself like a regular normal-as-shit-person and problem solved.
