Hello everyone. I am pretty terrible at this whole introducing myself thing, but I decided to join this forum to meet other people who are INTP, and I guess the second step to that would be to initiate a conversation. So far it's been interesting just lurking boards and replying to lighter topics to get a feel for the community. I like it here, I think I can learn a lot, and so I think I'll probably stick around for a while. To my knowledge I haven't met anyone else who is INTP before, so reading what you all have to say about yourselves and the things you're interested in is really intriguing to me.

Anyway, about myself. I'm female. I come from a big family. I have five brothers and two sisters, although that consists of step and half siblings. I've always been introverted, but for the most part I've been able to make friends pretty easily. I'm queer, I am capable of finding girls, guys and gender queer individuals attractive, but then I have trouble making emotional connections with people. I'm a graphic design major, finishing up my first year of school this summer. However, I am interested in studying other things as well, so I've been considering changing my major lately. I can't decide what I want to do though, which is typical for me. I tend to be pretty indecisive.

Anyway, I think that's enough for now. Maybe too much information even, but oh well. Nice to meet you.

I think you lied about:
1. Having five brothers and two sisters.
2. Findings girls, guys and gender queer people attractive.
3. Being a graphic design major.

... Um, and..

4. Being queer.
5. Being female.

Am I correct at all?

I'd like to ask the reasoning behind this but I'm not sure if there's much to show and I'd rather not insist so:

1. Wrong. I do have exactly Five brothers and two sisters. [a sister older and everyone else younger]

Which, I think, makes this:

although that consists of step and half siblings.

True as well. If "That" specifically referred to "Five brothers and two sisters".

which, I think, has a slight relationship with having large family.

2. Yes.

3. Yes.

4. Yes.

5. Yes.

Also:

6. "but for the most part I've been able to make friends pretty easily" is my lie.

Well done. :D

Well done. :D

Being queer and being female were just guesses. It was most likely those were true, because they're not as specific, but over all not that many people are queer and most INTPs are male. And then if you're not queer obviously you're also not into males, females and gender queer people. And even if you were queer, it'd be more likely you were gay or bi.

Number one I figured was a lie, because not many people have the same exact number of siblings as me, but I figured you could be from a big family and your brothers and/or sisters could be a mix of step and half siblings.

I didn't think you were a graphic design major, because I vaguely remember someone saying your age somewhere else on here, and I think you were kind of young? Maybe I'm incorrect though.

So. I explained my reasoning anyway. It's not very impressive or anything though.

If I guessed you lied about making friends easily, I'd have felt like a bitch.

How "big" is a "big family" in your opinion?

I am not too young but nonetheless hiding behind a young mask.

If I guessed you lied about making friends easily though, I'd have felt like a bitch.

Really? Why? This is interesting... Is difficulty in socialization so "insulting"?

If you were queer it's more likely you'd be gay. Liking only the same gender exclusively. Or you'd be bi, liking males and females. But it's not as likely you'd be attracted to gender queer people. Just because, a lot of people are confused just by the term.

How "big" is a "big family" in your opinion?

I'd say a family with four or five kids is a pretty big family.

I am not too young but nonetheless hiding behind a young mask.

Ah, okay. You don't seem too young to me.

Really? Why? This is interesting... Is difficulty in socialization so "insulting"?

Not exactly. I could have guessed that, just because you're introverted. However, I think if I said "I think you're lying about making friends easily." I'd feel like it could sound like I'm saying you don't seem likable to me, because not all introverted people have trouble making friends. I'm sure you'd have understood what I meant, I just know lots of people who like to take things the wrong way. I didn't even really consider you may be lying about making friends easily though. So it's not an excuse, if I had considered it, and said it though. I'd have felt I was being rude.

I have this name on a couple other things, and you're the second person to bring up Mr. Burns. It's just a coincidence though. I don't even watch the Simpsons.

You seem to be using the word queer to describe only sexual attraction. Is that correct?

I ask because I understand and use the word to mean weirdness/difference in anything. Furthermore, as a slang, only to mean homosexuality. For example, I would say that I am queer, but not homosexual.

Welcome, and cool helmet.

Yes, when I say I'm queer it's just in regard to my sexual orientation, although it could maybe apply to other aspects of me as well. Originally queer means odd, unusual or strange. Then it became a derogatory term towards people in the LGBT community, and then it was embraced by the LGBT community. I've even seen the Q added so it's LGBTQQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered, Queer, Questioning). Queer is kind of an umbrella term. So instead of saying you're homosexual or bisexual, you could say you're queer instead. It's just less specific. I identify as queer, and then explain my orientation if asked to elaborate.

, and thank you.

Cool, that makes sense. Fascinating how words and languages transform over time. I like the turn around of being derogatory to becoming embraced... there's something almost humorous about it.

I find it interesting too. It is kind of humorous. I have identified as queer for a while, and I remember like a year ago, someone called me queer, and I was just like "Yeah." I guess I could have been insulted by the intent of it, but I couldn't bring myself to feel honestly offended by a word that I use to describe myself anyway. My orientation IS unconventional, so queer is a fitting word. If someone perceives that as a negative thing, that's more their issue.

"Gay" is like that too. Originally meaning happy, then homosexual, and now often meaning stupid as well.

I wonder how the word "cool", came to mean what it means. Probably originally to describe weather/temperature. Then maybe to describe people's behavior, and then transitioning to describe situations, things, etc. Hm, but I don't know. I currently can't think of any other words like this.

I haven't seen Meet the Robinsons, but I've heard good things about it. Something involving a mind controlled frog kind of sounds like it's worth watching.

I wonder how the word "cool", came to mean what it means.

You got me wondering as well. I don't know to what extent your wonder is, but I figured that I'd share what I found nonetheless.

There probably isn't much of a way to verify this article, but I don't see a reason to doubt it, and it is interesting either way. There is also a more a more in depth Wikipedia page on the aesthetic aspect.

Neat comparison:
next_essay_chart.gif

Hey I still say 'tight' sometimes! Why the discontinuation?

That makes sense to me. Thanks for the article, it's definitely interesting and I don't really see any reason to doubt it either.

That chart is interesting as well, although I'd say pretty inaccurate. I don't hear people say tight as much as they did a few years back but they still do a bit, but people definitely are saying "rad" now. I hear it all the time. Although it'd also depend what culture you were looking at, and the location. The UK has different slang words than the US. Even different US states have different slang words. "Wicked" is more of a new England slang word I think, for example.

My brothers may even own it. If they do, maybe I'll watch it this weekend. I finally saw UP, after being told over and over again I need to see it. I still need to see Star Wars. My best friend was horrified I haven't seen any of the Star Wars movies.

hmmm, I suppose "cool" is pretty enduring. I, for one, don't say any of the words on that chart except for cool. I also like to use the associated 'chill' as an adjective (They were so chill, it was cool) and I use 'awesome' quite a bit, which should, like, totally, etc., be on that chart.

ooh, and they forgot 'the bee's knees' (60s-70s, I think), and the prefix 'hella' (hella-delicious, hella-sexy, etc.) (mid-to-late 90s?). I think we need some new ones. Some, dare I say, gnarly ones. (ewww, nevermind)

Oh, I almost forgot this is an intro thread.

Yeah, the only word on that list I say is cool too. I also say awesome, but that's not on the list. I say totally and like a lot too. I think we need new ones also. I think the UK has better slang words. There is kind of SOME new slang words. Mostly coming from the internet. I hear people saying "Pwnd" out loud. And "Rolfcopter." Haha.

, and thank you.

^ Yeah, I can definitely see internet slang moving into meatspeak. I already hear people say 'omg' out loud. I await the day when we'll hear a news anchor say 'pwnd' in a serious voice. (An earthquake pwnd Los Angeles yesterday. The pwnage is estimated in the millions.)

I've heard that a bit recently too. It always reminds me of this song:

YouTube- dynamite hack boys in the hood

That may be because in high school one of my friends played it over and over and over... and over again for like a week.
