Feeling "nostalgic" for something that hasn't happened...

Seeing the "What makes you feel nostalgic" thread made me think of this.

I really don't know how to explain any better than the title. It's like I imagine what something would have been like, for me specifically, being a teen in the 90's, and I don't want to call it nostalgia but that's what it feels like....is there a word for this? Crazy perhaps?

I hope I'm not alone in this :/

This reminds me of an old thread, I think it was trying to pinpoint the same concept.

The word "wistful" comes to mind. I feel the same about the 90s, actually.

As far as my understanding of the word "nostalgia" goes, it's impossible to feel nostalgic about something you've not experienced. But there is definately some word for it, I guess.

Maybe we can just make a new word.

I know what you mean.
I have that feeling very strongly with the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s.

I feel nostalgia for the Middle Ages.

But that's where I don't think it's possible. Looking at the definition of the word "A bittersweet longing for the past, on par with being homesick" There's definately another word for such feeling though. It's like feeling homesick for a home you've never lived in, or even visited.

Maybe we can just make a new word.

I agree with this, let's make something up. Afterall, that's how language develops. We make new words and sometimes forget old ones.

So my suggestion would be aiglatson, not being your feeling is the opposite of nostalgia, but just because I'm not really feeling creative.
