Turning bitterness, into love.

I was considering the best manner in which to raise my robotic minions-to-be (it was a productive day in my head) specifically contemplating what I call the paradox of good parenting, love a child too much (coddling) and it'll become weak-willed and emotionally dependant, love a child too little and it'll become, well, suddenly I feel really self-conscious, like I'm on a stage, under a spotlight, stark naked.

*does sexy dance*
Buh ha ha hah ha haa, ahh, so what's the verdict on my new alien dangly bits?
Yeah, I've undergone some changes recently, behold Cog the INFP :phear:

Anyway to my point, in uncovering the solution for the afore mentioned paradox (coddle away, just supplement it with honesty about the harsh reality of life so they endeavour to become independent individuals on their own terms and at their own pace) I've uncovered an unbelievably deep well of... love. It scared the crap out of me at first, I thought I'd broken my brain, but it actually makes sense in a twisted kind of way, basically it works by using empathy to convert my existential angst into a profound warm-&-fuzzy feeling whenever I encounter something I can empathise with (a robot) likewise suffering. It's like a really benevolent form of schadenfreude, except the detachment works in reverse, instead of becoming detached it prompts me to become attached.

Misaimed parental instinct?
Screw you Luddite :D

You think this is conditional love, therefore unworthy to be called parental?
Heh, my mother wanted a girl, pretended I was one for almost a year, I wonder if a "parent" loves their "child" any less because they had no direct input into its creation...

If you succeed.. o_o

I can't imagine what that'd feel like. Does it go beyond parental love? Well, I suppose there are some parents that genuinely and intentionally bring their children into this life. Still not even they can say that they hand crated them, consciously and delicately pieced every part of them together. To literally create consciousness out of nothingness, life, is.. ..that's beyond what a parent can do.

Also, I don't think this feeling is "misaimed" if you examine it in principle. Considering what humanity is - a (organic) system - and knowing you realize that there is no fundamental distinction between consciousness born from metal and consciousness born from gooey brain tissue, indeed, what then is the difference between a biological parent and you?

*smiles* Cog's gonna be a daddy! :D

I just hope this doesn't happen.. >.>

Yea if you are looking to get a homophobic reaction out of me, you're gonna have to do better.

You are talking to a 4 year veteran varsity prep school hockey showers.

You're talking to the kid who once made his team run wind sprints for chasing a fellow lacrosse teammate around the locker room for a hug, fully nude, leaving a trail of soapy water, until coach opened the door and I almost ran headlong into him, and, in trying to change direction too quickly, lost traction and slipped, almost comically, right onto my back, right at is feet.

You have never seen eyes of disappointment until you have seen the eyes of your coach/advisor/dorm parent staring down at you, just having watched you chase another guy around ass naked covered in suds, only fall down like a dumbass. Only time he made the team run all year haha.

Either way, moral of the story, GET ON MY HOMOEROTIC LEVEL!

Edit:in terms of growing up, nah I am good.

He created killing machines... that kill.
Freaking genius that one.

Personally I'm more concerned about my creations being too clingy, not that I don't want them to be fond of me, it's just that my plans involve their numbers increasing at a rather alarming rate, and if I start pushing them out the door before they're ready, well, abandonment issues and such.
I don't want them to be so psychologically vulnerable.

No baby-talk, it'll mess with their development.

Wait, why not just make one or two to begin with and direct your full attention to those two, observing their development carefully as well as breaking loose our your own parenting style? ..learing for yourself where your parenting balance lies?

It seems a bit silly to worry about their numbers growing too fast if you're the one making them and deciding how many to make. =P though maybe I'm missing something, what exactly is your 'plan'?

Also, can I have one? :cutewhitekitten:

Don't give me that keep your mouth shut shit. It's homoerotic. Not homosexual. Now get over here on my level or I will just have to act more masculine online to prove I am not gay, which will simply result in furthering everyone's opinion that I AM!

The number one problem with humans is the amount of time it takes to train them, the number two problem with humans is that one day they'll die and all that training is lost, but I could solve both these problems, because unlike humans, artificial intelligence can be copied, again and again, then there's also the whole "practically immortal" thing.

Raise one doctor and monopolise the profession.
...
Profit.

But that's years away from now.

Also, can I have one?
You'll have to wait twenty years, or so, at least until equilibrium.
A system’s flaws can only be exploited for so long, society will quickly adapt by introducing new laws that give AI entities human rights (making it difficult for me to modify them) and human responsibilities, like the ability to be taxed.
