I have been teaching myself with an acoutic guitar on and off for a few years and now im really trying to push my music more, i think id like to get into the electric scene but i cant decide between bass and Guitar, i dont think i know enough to make an educated decision i mean i think bass really gets under the skin and make me feel part of the music and i used to play drums when i was younger but guitars seem to have some really interesting melody too and are intrigueing , gah could you guys drop somoe opinions please.

Thanks

I'm more a fan of Electric guitar, although bass is good as well: playing both is useful as I've seen Guitarists spend a small time learning bass only to have it greatly improve their gutiaring, and I've seen just the opposite: bassists who gain from trying out guitar for a bit. Also, have you considered Violin? Its a great instrument, and can be just as fun as bass/guitar, and adds just as well to any variety of bands.

It doesn't really matter I think. You can probably do 'more' with e-guitar though. Also, if I remember correctly, you had problems with persevering with stuff (well, who hasn't?). Unless you have way too much money, you should look for used gear in good condition instead of the shiny new equipment. This will save you a lot of frustration in case you decide to do something else or figure out you rather want a completely different instrument.

I'm not there anymore...
I've played electric guitar for 3 years and just yesterday picked up a bass for the first time and started to improvise a bit with my friends. I was really surprised that they thought I could play bass. I just picked up the bass because I was bored.

I think it's easier to transfer guitar skills to bass from personal experience.
Also the ratio of guitarists to bassists are 10:1 so...

If you can play the guitar with a reasonable degree of proficiency you should be able to play the bass no problem. I've been playing the guitar for about seven years, and while it remains my primary instrument I actually prefer to play the bass; I love to groove.

In short, I don't believe the two are mutually exclusive, but rather complementary.
