Hello everyone!

My musical tastes are quite strange, and the music that I listen to ranges from rap to trance to jazz to heavy metal. I don't know about you guys, but for me, the music that I like to listen to depends greatly on the mood that I'm in, and I can't enjoy a song if it doesn't match my current mood. As a result, the question "What's your favorite band?" is an impossible question for me to answer, as it can change in a matter of minutes haha.

In this particular thread, I'm looking for your opinions on instrumental music, specifically electronic music with complex beats and melodies, anything that involves several different instruments and has a melody that you find interesting and pleasant. I would call it "study music." I'm always eager to discover new music and share my ideas with others, so I figured this would be a good place to go.

A few examples of the bands in this category that I enjoy:

Emancipator
E.S. Posthumous
Ratatat
Bonobo
Ronald Jenkees
Royksopp
Philter
Booka Shade
Radioactive Sandwich

Theres gotta be others out there that have heard of these too. Anyone on here listen to these bands too or am I just that hipster? lol

Radioactive Sandwich are probably my favourite group out of the ones you listed. They've got a dark vibe that I dig. It's not a genre I listen to that often, I tend to gravitate more towards Jazz/Funk/Blues, but I'll list the artists I know for what you're looking for. You've probably heard of some of them, but maybe you'll get a surprise somewhere.

Autechre
Aphex Twin
DJ Shadow
Chemical Brothers pre-2000
Crystal Method pre-2000
Mr. Oizo
MC 900. ft Jesus - not as many instrumentals, but he has some exceptionally dark/brooding/whimsical stuff
Mr. Scruff
Pretty Lights - he's gone into more dubstep territory now, but he has some older stuff that might be what you're looking for.
Orbital
DJ Greyboy - He has some seriously smooth shit; great Acid Jazz tracks.
The Dust Brothers

I wish I could think of more, drawing a blank at the moment.

Hope you discover at least one thing new :)
