I always get INTP on these tests (and by reading up on the functions/type descriptions etc, it's the type that i feel [pun might be intended] fits me the most by a fair margin), but this test typed me as INFJ = I can be quite emotional, but ehh?

Anyone else get unexpected results?

Test's aren't that important :P

Plus this one had some weird questions.

A logical decision is always the best, even when it hurts someone’s feelings.

^Like how can you agree with a statement that categorical in its nature? It isn't always best to make a logical decision even if it hurts someone's feelings. It depends on the consequences of hurting whoever's feelings. Unless of course making a logical decision means you consider the consequences of hurting feelings in the deduction underlying your decision making, in which case making the logical decision is always best and the whole thing becomes a tautology.

It should just ask you whether you value logic over emotions, because that's what it is asking but in a really stupid nonsensical way.

turbulent + diplomatic INFP

[bimgx=250]http://i.imgur.com/bi5tji7.jpg[/bimgx]

don't like many of those questions.

-alone time bullshit not indicative of I/E (E needs alone time too)
-relaxation hardly indicative of type
-who accuses you of what is unrelated to you (nobody ever comments on me, i live alone)
-humans are not capable of being in control of their environment. how then can it be important to be in control of it?
-WHAT work is supposed to reflect how i feel or not? menial work? yes, i will shit on it.
-do i have to ENJOY being aware of possible future outcomes?
-as an introvert, can I not also feel better after spending time with people, which happens once a week/month/year? of course i feel better. except when i feel worse, because i have just found out, that my social anxiety is even worse than i remembered.

Lol yeah, why would I want my work to reflect the way I feel about things? I don't want work with toxic waste.

It gave me INTP. I'm ENTP if you see me in action (=throwing concepts at other people faces in lethargic state). Tests are unreliable.

"you would rather call yourself pragmatic than visionary" haha yes, for strictly social-tactics N kind of reasons... who calls themselves visionary like that? whatever, i'm even over-interpreting this.

"you are more concerned about the future than about the present"? what? i attend more to broad future developments, or the future (change) bothers me more personally than does the present? this proposition goes all over the place. well it's kind of easy to tell what they probably mean and how it affects the results, but the point is to be able to immerse oneself in the test and answer sincerely instead of getting derailed by fuzzy language. fuzzy-yummy psyche goo does not require fuzzy language.

RESULTS: turbulent INFP. strongest asymmetry in favor of P, weakest for F.

"role" is just a two letter combo like NF, probably just the keirsey ones. i wonder what they mean by "variant" though.

I get stuck on those questions. I have typed myself as ISFJ on online tests and that is not my strongest suite. I'm so sucky at sensing in that real word that I would consider it as an impairment.

In feelery/sensory sense I see myself as ISFJ. Intuitive/thinking sense I'm ENTP.

It's on the website buried in one of the pages. (Took me a few tries to find it.) Assertive (calm, in control, laid back) vs turbulent (anxious, perfectionist, more reactive)

ah, there. so it's kind of like adding the Neuroticism variable, which gives a total 5 (of course ignoring CF theory). could they be identified with the big 5 factors?

Extraversion yes, Neuroticism yes, Openness N?, Conscientiousness J?, Agreeableness F?

Conscientiousness: Could be T trait
Agreeableness: Fi + Ne
Openness: P-dom (I can be very close minded when it is not about Ne). Like should I jump with parachute from plane. Not interesting. What about tasting this tasty insect pie? Nope. Should I get a tattoo? Why?! Let's study something peculiar? I'm already there.

openness could be P instead of N yes. then i would switch conscientiousness from J to S in order not to conflate the variables. if that's a purpose.

This, several of the questions felt paradoxical or just plain badly formulated. Apparently i'm INTJ now btw...

At least Te should involve huge correlation with perceived conscientiousness.
I don't know but it could be argued that T-dom trait. It is hard to measure this one because if you are going to give Te-dom something which involves heavily Ti (s)he is going to survive very long or vice versa. I'm very fickle with this one: I'm reliable when it comes to other people but...

F-trait: high Fe users can be late a lot actually and their emotions can betray them. Or imagine INFP judge.

"Ideas are often more important than real things."

Ideas aren't "real"? Couldn't they just phrase it "Possibilities are more important/interesting than the immediate reality"?.

"You believe that moral positions are often more important than what makes logical sense."

I would argue that maximizing happiness/minimizing suffering is quite a logical approach that panders to "emotions". ugh

Pheeh, INTP again, was free falling for a while there.

INTP PERSONALITY

Whether the chicken crossed the road or the road crossed the chicken depends on your frame of reference.
Albert Einstein
The INTP personality type is fairly rare, making up only three percent of the population, which is definitely a good thing for them, as there's nothing they'd be more unhappy about than being "common". INTPs pride themselves on their inventiveness and creativity, their unique perspective and vigorous intellect. Usually known as the philosopher, the architect, or the dreamy professor, INTPs have been responsible for many scientific discoveries throughout history.

THE UNEXAMINED LIFE IS NOT WORTH LIVING

INTPs are known for their brilliant theories and unrelenting logic - in fact, they are considered the most logically precise of all the personality types.
They love patterns, and spotting discrepancies between statements could almost be described as a hobby, making it a bad idea to lie to an INTP. This makes it ironic that INTPs' word should always be taken with a grain of salt - it's not that they are dishonest, but people with the INTP personality type tend to share thoughts that are not fully developed, using others as a sounding board for ideas and theories in a debate against themselves rather than as actual conversation partners.

INTP personalityThis may make them appear unreliable, but in reality no one is more enthusiastic and capable of spotting a problem, drilling through the endless factors and details that encompass the issue and developing a unique and viable solution than INTPs - just don't expect punctual progress reports. People who share the INTP personality type aren't interested in practical, day-to-day activities and maintenance, but when they find an environment where their creative genius and potential can be expressed, there is no limit to the time and energy INTPs will expend in developing an insightful and unbiased solution.

WISDOM BEGINS IN WONDER

They may appear to drift about in an unending daydream, but INTPs' thought process is unceasing, and their minds buzz with ideas from the moment they wake up. This constant thinking can have the effect of making them look pensive and detached, as they are often conducting full-fledged debates in their own heads, but really INTPs are quite relaxed and friendly when they are with people they know, or who share their interests. However, this can be replaced by overwhelming shyness when INTP personalities are among unfamiliar faces, and friendly banter can quickly become combative if they believe their logical conclusions or theories are being criticized.

When INTPs are particularly excited, the conversation can border on incoherence as they try to explain the daisy-chain of logical conclusions that led to the formation of their latest idea. Oftentimes, INTPs will opt to simply move on from a topic before it's ever understood what they were trying to say, rather than try to lay things out in plain terms.

The reverse can also be true when people explain their thought processes to INTPs in terms of subjectivity and feeling. Imagine an immensely complicated clockwork, taking in every fact and idea possible, processing them with a heavy dose of creative reasoning and returning the most logically sound results available - this is how the INTP mind works, and this type has little tolerance for an emotional monkey-wrench jamming their machines.

LET THOSE WHO WOULD MOVE THE WORLD FIRST MOVE THEMSELVES

Further, with Thinking (T) as one of their governing traits, INTPs are unlikely to understand emotional complaints at all, and their friends won't find a bedrock of emotional support in them. People with the INTP personality type would much rather make a series of logical suggestions for how to resolve the underlying issue, a perspective that is not always welcomed by their Feeling (F) companions. This will likely extend to most social conventions and goals as well, like planning dinners and getting married, as INTPs are far more concerned with originality and efficient results.

The one thing that really holds INTPs back is their restless and pervasive fear of failure. INTP personalities are so prone to reassessing their own thoughts and theories, worrying that they've missed some critical piece of the puzzle, that they can stagnate, lost in an intangible world where their thoughts are never truly applied. Overcoming this self-doubt stands as the greatest challenge INTPs are likely to face, but the intellectual gifts - big and small - bestowed on the world when they do makes it worth the fight.

I don't know why I keep getting INTP when I clearly am not one.

Idea is that a lot of Ni users are typed as Fi or Ti users. Ni is easy to pin down as Fi or Ti. Fi or Ti is easy to pin down as Ni. Problem is, if you are like me, you become your role, because you predict what you are like. Then you think you are being true, but aren't.

And yes, the test is flawed. Well, less the test, and more the definitions. The tests are good, but the answers given in response are bad.

For example, from your profile picture, I can see you are probably mocking something. Only cynical people mock things. Cynical people are INTJ. Am I right? If so, then what were you mocking?

Actually, now I am uncertain. Hrrm. Well, I know that one is cynical, and the other is I don't give a damn. Well, I pegged the cynical ones as INTJ and the agressive workers as INTP. Hrrm. Yeah. That sounds right, now that I think about it. Got confused, because INTP is secretly silly, and I figured the cynical people fit better for that. :P

intp secretly silly? care to elaborate?

i feel more like: i'm the only one who takes this shit (whatever) seriously and yet i gotta be a self-effacing clown to get through the day.

Ti-Ne suggests secretly serious and i think many an INTP's failed attempts at communicating their ideas in everyday settings - followed by quick resort to witticism, laid-backness or silence - corroborates this crude prediction.
