My girlfriend suggested lawyers and doctors, since those professions live off the problems of others.

Assuming: In an ideal enviroment, the only important person, is the person living that dream.

So if dreamers required for their ideal world something to exist, it would, but it would be dependent on the needs, not on the resources. Every job would be optional.
There would be no adjustment of needs to the availible resources.

The last limiting factor is the brain and its imagination, which is limited and doesn't require infinite amounts of energy to satisfy, unless there is a need to expand the brain so that it can do exactly that, influence greater and greater amounts of space and matter.

I have this idea for a lawyer like profession that's basically all about conflict resolution outside of court, a sort of professional negotiator who speaks to someone on their client's behalf with the intent of calming them down and arranging an agreeable compromise if not solving the conflict outright.

A lot of civil court cases aren't really legal disputes it's just angry people trying to sue each other, someone like a therapist could probably get better results than a lawyer far faster and cheaper.

That's called mediation.

So whose ideals are we using?

Ideally we would all be AI encased in robots capable of reshaping our bodies to any use that pleases us.

Assuming we're talking about a post-scarcity utopia, should jobs even exist? A job implies a need for utility, so is it an ideal world if I have to do something to make it better?

An ideal world?
A cogent definition of the term is needed.

One may hold complete anarchy as the ideal, while another would prefer monotonous unity.
