What is this Ti Si loop they are talking about? I am not sure I understand that at all. Ok. is it about fear? Hmm. If anyone has personal examples or can name their personal examples and the type of loop it is, it would be interesting for comparisons.

I found this, but its still not very clear.

Quick summary on functions:
  • There are 8 total “cognitive functions” — parts/types of thinking that make up your MBTI type.
  • Se — extraverted sensing — present info, moves on.
  • Si — introverted sensing — past experience, compares.
  • Ne — extraverted intuition — detail-oriented, new ideas.
  • Ni — introverted intuition — bigger picture, new theories.
  • Te — extraverted thinking — quick decisions, efficiency.
  • Ti — introverted thinking — think it through, accuracy.
  • Fe — extraverted feeling — helping others, adapt to others.
  • Fi — introverted feeling — helping yourself, stay true to self.
  • Each type has a top 4. 1st = dominant, 2nd = auxiliary, 3rd = tertiary, 4th = inferior. Most to least used/strongest to weakest.

Loops:
  • When you're pretty stressed, you might fall into this pattern first.
  • You will focus on your dom. (1st) and ter. (3rd) and keep going between the two.
  • You basically ignore the other 2 functions, which shouldn't be forgotten because they all help you work smoothly.
  • Ex. INFP will be stuck in a Fi-Si loop. They will only think about their dark feelings (Fi) and their past failures (Si), mostly trying to connect them in unhealthy ways. They will forget about their creativity (Ne) and carrying out ideas (Te).
Grips:
  • When you're absolutely stressed, you will fall into this one.
  • You will only focus on your last and weakest function — inf. (4th). “weak” means you haven't used it much or worked on it.
  • The other 3 are pushed aside and you may even seem like a different person because you're thinking and acting in a different way.
  • You're basically compensating because the other functions didn't help you calm down, so this is your last resort.
  • Ex. INFP will be in a Te grip. Instead of being their dreamy, patient selfs, they will keep busy, hurrying, trying to get lots of things done, being bossy, etc. They weren't able to successfully reflect on their emotions (Fi), sort through ideas (Ne), or use past experience (Si) to help them through this problem.
Now, don't panic yet if you think you've fallen into one of these patterns! There are many ways to develope ALL of your functions so that you can work to your full potential

ok, someone asked, what does it feel like for an INTP to be stuck in a Ti Si Loop?

Copied and Pasted from Quora:

Literally means analysis paralysis, unable to analyze properly, the mind becomes frozen, all the Ti is able to gather data from is from Si. No input from Ne. It is the most terrible thing to happen to an INTP.

It's usually triggered by Fe grip, or when you have exhausted every possibility available and none worked. This will happen for sometime. Moreover if the previous incident impacted you so profoundly, you become scared to think of new things and new possibilities.

You go into a loop of analyzing - see what information you got in the past, because you cannot see any possibilities, because “it didn't work before, why should I try it again?”

When in a loop, memories can be so tormenting, it depends the kind of struggle that you go through that causes you to be in the loop. You keep replaying the past over and over, to see what went wrong, “why didn't I do it differently, what should I do, I don't know what to do,” etc.

The loop can be very severe, depending on the trigger.

________________

It can happen when there is an area in your life you are not happy with: relationships, work, where you live, money etc. It is in our nature to feel a bit depressed when things become stagnant.

Being logical people we start thinking (Ti) about how to fix the situation. It is when we feel we have run out of options there is a risk to fall into getting stuck on any negative events in the past (Si) and questioning what could have been done differently. This is the Ti-Si loop and can lead to a downward spiral.

As others have mentioned the only way to move forward is to get out of your head and search for new possibilities and experiences (Ne). Life is too short to dwell on the past.

The INTP Ti-Si Loop

Analytical and explorative, INTPs enjoy intellectual discovery and innovation. These types strive to examine their thoughts carefully, assessing whether their thinking is true and clear of biases or murky logic. When INTPs get into a loop, they become reclusive and obsessed with their thinking at the expense of their intuition.

How this can show up:

  • Retreating from the world and thus failing to ground their theories in real-world experiences
  • Becoming anxious or hesitant to try new things.
  • Extreme aversion to risk.
  • Relying on bad habits or creature comforts at the expense of their relationships or responsibilities.
  • Developing tunnel vision and having difficulty generating positive alternatives or possibilities.
  • Becoming an “armchair expert” on many things without testing their validity in the real world
  • Avoiding human connection, even when they desire it

The solution? INTPs need to get in touch with their extraverted intuition in order to find their path out of a loop. Before making a judgment, they should analyze alternate perspectives and possibilities. They should go out into the world and spend time with people they love. They should try new things, whether that means reading a new book, going to a new restaurant, or taking an online class about a subject they’ve never studied before.
