This is way too good. Thanks for the link. For some reason it reminds me a little of Carly Simon's Why? (extended mix). Eric B and Rakim's best is still 'Paid in Full' though: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6aAFkP0BGU. The bass line is crazily good. And the whistle sample. Damn. I wish I was around when this was out originally.

Out of recent times producers, the only ones that really respect the old school 80s rap traditions are J Dilla (RIP) and Madlib. J Dilla was too advanced for his time.

They are definitely both great, the Jaylib collaboration is a must-have.

Also El-P's Fantastic Damage is basically an 80s tribute album, and People Under The Stairs definitely have that pre-'85 hip hop vibe, but yeah a lot of the indie/backpacker artists tend to give recognition to the roots.

Thanks for that. Not really into El-P that much. He's ok I guess. There are very few rappers out there now that keep both old school production and lyrical flow. I know it's obvious, but I think Kendrick Lamar is doing his best. Joey Bada$$ is also doing a good job. 'My Yout' is cool. Beastie Boys too I guess but obviously not the same now they're a two piece.
