Whilst procrasting last night (a history assessment that I had today), I came across some sites to do with polymaths and philomaths. I've read about polymaths before, and the idea of becoming one appealed to me (although I forgot about it by the next day). Here are some of the sites that I came across:

http://www.projectpolymath.org/summary.shtml
http://www.dubage.com/API/ThePolymath/1.1/ThePolymath0701nty.htm
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philomath
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polymath
http://www.curledup.com/renasoul.htm
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eccentricity_(behavior)

I must say, I think I (and probably most INTPs) have the potential to become polymaths!

ProjectPolymath sounds incredibly appealing; if only more people were interested...!

Could you edit your links? They now request a username and password and I don't have one.... then again... copy paste works as well...

Bwahaha... this has been my life's goal for a while now. Thomas Jefferson is my role model. I'm making progress, but one of the things that separates a Jack of All Trades from a Polymath is that they must accomplish something amazing in at least two of their fields. Sometimes this feels like one of the more self-centered aspects of my life, but I can't think of a better dream to pursue.

:S I wasn't aware of any issues with the links - but then again, I wasn't able to check them because threads with links don't pop up immediately :(

I like being polymath-ish. I don't think I have been living long enough to be a true polymath, but that is what I forsee for myself.

My moving from one field of specialisation to another a person can enlarge their skill/knowledge base with a minimal lose of relative ability.
For example: I want to be a game designer, however that is a long and relatively fruitless path. But by teaching myself narrative and the other skills required to become an author I can obtain useful insights and a potential supplementary income.

Here is my currently perceived study path
1. Currently formal Web design education and self taught authoring skills
2. Then I'm moving on to game design (web design is required for the course)
3. When I've become a game designer I can use skills from "Web Design" and "Authoring" to give me an edge in the industry.
4. Beyond that I hope to further develop my coding knowledge and financial resources
(Book + Game = Game royalties)
(More books add depth to the game, and a successful game advertises the books)
(e.g. win-win situation)
5. Using financial resources I intend to develop my knowledge in the areas of "Robotics" and "Internal Human Mechanics". I suppose you know where this is headed.

Yes, I realise my plans are complicated and don't factor for life related interferences like marriage or procreation. But the best laid plans often fail, so I'm winging it.

(I ask myself why am I so will to share my secret life plans here?)
