Is Dark Matter Actually Transparent?

I was thinking how thought can be herded by words, with images formed by extrapolation of the symbolized from the symbol. One particularly misleading symbol, (or so it seems to me), is the word, Dark used as an adjective to describe the undetectable mass though to comprise the bulk of the universe and an associated type of energy.

Could other adjectives be more accurate or more representative of that quality we attribute to that hypothetical mass?

I wonder why the words, invisible or transparent, are not used. IMO, they seem to reflect the reality better that the word that was chosen.
