Help Identifying what I am

I belive I am an INTP but I am not sure. I have take many tests and I ussually get INTP with the occasional INTJ, but I know those aren't 100% trustworthy. I am going to analize the portrait of an INTP from personalitypage.com and hopefully you guys can tell me what I am and why I don't agree with everything it says.

INTPs live in the world of theoretical possibilities. They see everything in terms of how it could be improved, or what it could be turned into. They live primarily inside their own minds, having the ability to analyze difficult problems, identify patterns, and come up with logical explanations. They seek clarity in everything, and are therefore driven to build knowledge. They are the "absent-minded professors", who highly value intelligence and the ability to apply logic to theories to find solutions. They typically are so strongly driven to turn problems into logical explanations, that they live much of their lives within their own heads, and may not place as much importance or value on the external world. Their natural drive to turn theories into concrete understanding may turn into a feeling of personal responsibility to solve theoretical problems, and help society move towards a higher understanding.

I agree with this. I spend a large amount of time reading about and think of ways to improve my countries government or just systems of government that would be better if they replaced it. My biggest passion is space travel and colonization. I often think that if I don't get involved in helping advance the spread of humans throught the cosmos that I will have waisted my life. I come up with many ideas for originations or governments, but after a week or two of thinking about whatever it is constantly the idea will sink to the back of my mind to be forgotten. Sometimes I will get as far as writing some stuff and maybe finding a few individuals who would be interested in working on an organization with me but I eventually get board.

INTPs value knowledge above all else. Their minds are constantly working to generate new theories, or to prove or disprove existing theories. They approach problems and theories with enthusiasm and scepticism, ignoring existing rules and opinions and defining their own approach to the resolution. They seek patterns and logical explanations for anything that interests them. They're usually extremely bright, and able to be objectively critical in their analysis. They love new ideas, and become very excited over abstractions and theories. They love to discuss these concepts with others. They may seem "dreamy" and distant to others, because they spend a lot of time inside their minds musing over theories. They hate to work on routine things - they would much prefer to build complex theoretical solutions, and leave the implementation of the system to others. They are intensely interested in theory, and will put forth tremendous amounts of time and energy into finding a solution to a problem with has piqued their interest.

I don't value knowledge above all else. If you have knoledge but do nothing with it then the knowledge is pointless. Sadly I spend a lot of time learning about things that shouldn't matter at all and then I don't actually do anything with the knowledge that I have. An example of this is my love for conspiricy theories. I will spend hours learning about various conspiracy theories. But this is just entertainment for me, I don't usually believe what they say because a lot of them are just plain crazy with lots of logical flaws, but not all.

INTPs do not like to lead or control people. They're very tolerant and flexible in most situations, unless one of their firmly held beliefs has been violated or challenged, in which case they may take a very rigid stance. The INTP is likely to be very shy when it comes to meeting new people. On the other hand, the INTP is very self-confident and gregarious around people they know well, or when discussing theories which they fully understand.

I don't agree with the first sentience. I was in scouts until I was 18 and became quite a good leader. In my day dreams I often envision myself as the leader of a group or the head of a government. I image all the good I could do and how I could be a much better leader than most. I wouldn't let emotions get in my way and i would make rational decisions. Why should Russia and the US be enemies? Why don't we just work together to get our people into the stars? Ideas like this but obviously more complicated because I spend lots of time thinking about these when I should be doing homework or studying.


I agree with the rest of the portrait 100%. I definitely agree that the truth should always be strived for, sugar coating things so people feel better is something I see as harmful. I am very independent and value independace and privacy over many other things.

I should probably also mention that I have a fascination with history and alternative forms of government. By alternative forms of government I mean forms that are different from anything common people accept as something that works. Ever since I was a kid my stongest focus was on NAZI Germany and Fascist Italy. It just always interested me how such a differant form of government could work. As a kid one of the main reasons I really found interest in it was because everyone else hated them, I have always found interest in things that most people dislike. But I was smart enough to know not to voice my interest because people wouldn't understand.

But I am bad at making friends and much prefer small groups to large ones. I would rather spend my weekend with some friends than alone, but i think this is because I haven't made many friends since I got to college and the ones I have aren't optimal. I just haven't been able to find anyone I really like yet. I am often starved of the little social contact I need. At home I could go two weeks without hanging out with my close friends and then spend the next weekend with them 24/7 without any issues. This is the first time I have ever felt a need for more social contact, one of the only times I have ever felt lonely since I started highschool after 9 years of a small private school.

Why do you say that? I thought the biggest thing with INTJs was obsessing over projects and actually finishing them. I will obsess with projects but I will just sort of get board and it will fizzle out. My HDDs and Imgur acc are evidence of this.

objectively speaking, it may have no point nor value at the moment since, as you say, the bit of knowledge just sits there. subjectively, however, i might argue that there is some point or value by the simple fact that it's something you collected.

that's quite a jump, going from enjoying leadership in a fairly well-structured organization like the scouts, to potentially leading a group within the clusterfuck that is real-life.

overall, i wouldn't get too hung up on every single line of any personality description. they're fun and help to paint a general picture, but we're all unique variations on a theme so there's bound to be differences.
