Advice on starting prepared piano work?

Sounds cool. I googled what you meant by prepared piano, and even the small trick of placing cardboard between a string to make it sound like a drum was neat.

I don't think it would damage the piano that much, at least nothing that can be fixed or retuned. Though, I'm not entirely sure how hard it is to tune a piano.

If it's light you don't need to be worried, you could ask your piano tuner what they think about it, or how to conserve your grand piano better.

Metal rulers (thin yet wide metal bars) add a nice harpsichord effect for instance. You might think of some way to hold the elements in place, as they tend to move around when you play.
