So, I recently finished Yr 12 in NSW Australia and today we received our end of schooling mark, the benchmark that universities in Australia use for entry cut-offs, called an ATAR.

I was planning on doing a Computer Science course but that might be impossible now because my ATAR was a lot lower than I expected.

I just wanted some suggestions for possible courses of action if I can't study Com Sci at uni? Are there other courses that can lead into it, or any other study options?

Can you take a gap year and improve this ATAR mark? If you find you don't want to recycle yourself then maybe find other interesting courses and study CS on your own?

You could as well get a job, raise ATAR and study CS at that time and do what you actually want to do.

Abstraction level 1: I don't really know how easy it is to find a job, I can say that it is possible to teach your self for example CS.

I think there is something called STAT, and its used for mature age entry to uni, with separate tests. I don't know much about it but I believe you need to have been out of school for 2 years.

Work could be an option, until I can take STAT, it would just feel rather defeating to have that long off.

Your heart is a lab rat in a maze then, is it not?

More like a traveller at a desert oasis, trying to venture out but always returning on the brink of death for water.

I'd recommend a gap year or two:

1. Opportunity to take STAT.

2. Opportunity to save money. No or less debt.

3. Time to delve into your interests on a self-guided level (via Khan academy, etc), and reassess if necessary.
