Hi and Welcome to the forum.
Do you mean the Formula 1 pilot Michael Schumacher? Then he is written that way (I am German, so i know. The sound of "Schu-" is probably like your sound of "Shoo")

Hardest thing(s) about being INTP?

Wanting to be more social but being unable. Feeling alienated from friends and family at times. Not being able to turn off the over-thinking at inappropriate times. Being an emotional cripple.

How old are you?

21.

What's your gender?

How did you find out that you were INTP, or other type?

I found out I was an INTP in the 9th grade when a friend of mine purchased a copy of Please Understand Me II. He was an ENFP and we always clicked, but we both felt very alienated from the rest of our peers; understanding how personality differences shaped our social frustrations was very liberating.

How did you find out about this forum?

Google.

Do you have a partner/lover?

Nope.

Do you have any kids?

Hell no.

Do you have any pets?

A dog and a cat.

Which hobbies absorb you the most?

Reading, writing, research, computers/forums, listening to music, attempting (poorly) to mix music, kayaking, hanging out with friends, late night discussions, travel, hiking, various other non-competitive outdoor activities.

How do you generate an income?

I'm an undergraduate mathematics and physics major right now, and generally make money grading papers for the Math Department or tutoring.

Hardest thing(s) about being INTP?

I wish I was more fluent with my emotions. Also, laziness and completing tasks without being "inspired" can be painful. Being alienated from people in general, although I'm not sure if that's entirely a bad thing...

No, looking forward to finding one someday.

Do you have any kids?
nope, must succeed at the previous question first.

Do you have any pets?
1 cat. he's a pain in the ass. he thinks I'm a petting device. I realized something while I was reading these posts. INTP's refer to equals by their given names otherwise it's an arbitray term "hey: you:" etc. IMO

Which hobbies absorb you the most?
Thinking... Someone else said this but it's true. TV if you can call that a hobby, working on cars, playing video games, Movies, researching, anything that I find amusing.

How do you generate an income?
I'm a software developer for 6 years but now I'm starting to get into CG film making.

Hardest thing about being INTP?

How did you find out that you were INTP, or other type?

I've always been curious about my own psychology, so i took several internet personality tests. 4 out of 4 said i was INTP.

How did you find out about this forum?

One of the tests i did had a link to this site. i read some of the posts and decided it seemed interesting (especially since my last philosophical forum has kind of died off) so i signed up.

Do you have a partner/lover?

Girlfriend that i met over the internet. she lives in california, i've flown out to meet her several times (you all should feel lucky because i probably never would ahve admitted that if i wasn't drunk right now)

Do you have any kids?

No

Do you have any pets?

No. i've never seen a practical reason to keep an animal around the house.

Which hobbies absorb you the most?

Reading, writing, RPG games (played WoW, currently play FFXI)

How do you generate an income?

Working in a wearhouse, unloading semi trailers.

Hardest thing(s) about being INTP?

Closed off emotionally. its difficult to talk to friends/family about problems.
Difficult to find people interested in what i like to talk about. I often times find myself bringing up something interesting i read or heard about and seeing it fall on deaf ears.
Overthinking myself into depression. causes overdrinking.
People aren't opinionated enough to argue with me!

A very belated post here... I'm pretty sure I haven't before, and if I have, I missed it in a quick check.

What is your name?

Jordan McLaren.

Where are you from?

Dundee, Scotland.

How old are you?

15.

What's your gender?

Male.

How did you find out that you were INTP, or other type?

Found out about the MBTI through the cast page on Dresden Codak, and wondered what I was.

How did you find out about this forum?

Linked to it by Typelogic.

Do you have a partner/lover?

I wish.

Do you have any kids?

Thankfully, no - both because I am one and because I can't stand them.

Do you have any pets?

Nope. I've never had pets, but we've shared cats with our neighbours.

Which hobbies absorb you the most?

Gaming, the Internet and reading.

How do you generate an income?

My parents give me things.

Hardest thing(s) about being INTP?

I don't find it particularly difficult, but I suppose it would be handy if I wasn't so horribly absent-minded.

I tend to enjoy math, video games, friends, puns, and computers.

How do you generate an income?

I work as an IT Intern at a company, which I'm being let go of as of next Friday, woohoo!

Hardest thing(s) about being INTP?

I have a knack for bad puns and things relating to the technical fields where I am, so sometimes it's hard to relate to people on things that I really really find fascinating, and they sometimes get annoyed with the puns XD.

How did you find out that you were INTP, or other type?

When I was in Bible School one of my teachers introduced the online test from Keirsey's website. That was 7 years ago and I've been avid about it since. I should note that for the first 5 years I thought I was an INTJ. That was before I understood that being punctual doesn't necessarily mean you're a J.

How did you find out about this forum?

Google, just like everything else.

Do you have a partner/lover?

Yep, but she lives in San Francisco right now. We've been together for 1 and 1/2 years now and I'm slowly becoming comfortable with the idea of designing my life around more than just myself.

And for the INTPs who don't have a partner I would like to point out that she is my first girlfriend (hell, I didn't go on a real date until I was 22).

Do you have any kids?

Not yet.

Do you have any pets?

Had a cat that lived to 18 years old, but we had to put her down when she broke her hip falling down the stairs.

Which hobbies absorb you the most?

Psychology (really? I never would have guessed), Video Games, Reading, Guitar

How do you generate an income?

Test Engineer in the semiconductor industry

Hardest thing(s) about being INTP?

Not producing things from my ideas. I would love to share my ideas with the world, but I seem to be so busy having new ideas and refining old ideas that I never get around to actually sharing :(

That and awkwardness in many social situations.

Hardest thing(s) about being INTP?

Not liking other people. I suppose I'm a bit of a psychological patriot, so I see all my downfalls as benefits.

Reason for Living?

It's kind of fun having a male name on the internet. It's a habit of mine since in many other internet settings, I get a lot of condescension because I'm a girl. And it's an inside joke with an old friend of mine.

Well it’s about time I introduced myself properly, with all likelihood that nobody will read this , unless they do , stop reading!

What is your name?

My name is Blake, it means dark one apparently; or dark skinned, heh, I wish.

Where are you from?

Australia, Queensland, Brisbane, just up the road from the Aspley Hornets AFL club. Come and get me if you dare; greater people have tried to kill me.

How old are you?

I'm 18, born 6th of May 1990 (makes figuring out my age quite easy)

What's your gender?

Male, that or I'm horribly confused.

How did you find out that you were INTP, or other type?

I did the test last year.

How did you find out about this forum?

Well a year after taking the test (wow I'm lazy) I did a bit of looking and found this website.

Do you have a partner/lover?

Been there, wasn't fun, now I'm happy waiting for a nice logical girl to cross my path.

Do you have any kids?

I'm 18, I hope not. (No, seriously, I'm not that stupid)

Do you have any pets?

Currently I don't have any pets, used to have a great cat called Ebony though.

Which hobbies absorb you the most?

Other than usual INTP hobby stuff I spend lots of time learning how to design interactive games and working on concepts for these designs.

How do you generate an income?

Full time study, for now I really don't have any money.

Hardest thing(s) about being INTP?

Dealing with my inner voice, surprisingly hard to stop my mind from attacking itself. But since I'm used to dealing with it there is nothing specifically difficult about being an INTP.

Reason for Living?
I've gone through some dark times, even contemplated suicide, but I didn't go through with it. Oddly it was my inner voice that saved me, it made me regard suicide as the final and greatest humiliation.
I'm a lot happier now though and I consider life itself all the reason I need to live.

What is your name?

Paul, not very interesting, I blame that upon unimaginative parents though.

Where are you from?

Newcastle upon Tyne, UK

How old are you?

31

What's your gender?

Male
How did you find out that you were INTP, or other type?

Someone once mentioned that I seemed to be INTP, done the test and lo and behold they were right.

How did you find out about this forum?

Suddenly became intensly interested in INTP and have now read all the sites about it and there seems to be a site for every person who is INTP. 1% of 6 billion.

Do you have a partner/lover?

Yes, she is an INFP
Do you have any kids?

two, a boy of 5 and a girl of 3

Do you have any pets?

A dog and a cat, the dog irritates me, stupid dependant creature, all hopelessy whiny and shits and pisses. The cat is fine, comes for a feed and a stroke, spends the rest of the time killing birds and mice, even the odd budgie.

Which hobbies absorb you the most?

I have the terrible habit of playing computer games, its where I do most of my problem solving, also its a form of escapism.
How do you generate an income?

With great difficulty, I worked as a support worker for people with drug and alcohol issues and have now been seconded into two new roles bearing no resemblance to what I was previously doing.
Hardest thing(s) about being INTP?

Getting up the motivation to do anything other than sleeping and dreaming.
Reason for Living?
Hey it wasn't my idea, don't assume I have been asigned a reason let alone created one for myself.

Lightspeed, I love your Douglas Adams quote!
What is your name?
Omnia
What is your quest?
To become Poet Laureate, win the Nobel Prize in Literature, have & raise a happy future offspring, cultivate the bliss of my significant other, live in a George Paul dome home by the sea, live far away from my mother-in-law, swim, dive and dance often, play flute again, and discover the secrets of immortality. Not in that order, just all at once.
What is your favourite color?
Yes please.
Where are you from?
Mars
How old are you?
37
What's your gender?
Female
How did you find out that you were INTP, or other type?
Took the test.
How did you find out about this forum?
www.typelogic.com
Do you have a partner/lover?
Yes. In my opinion he's INTJ/INTP (& I'm INTP/INTJ).
Do you have any kids?
Not yet, but I hope to before the 4th decade.
Do you have any pets?
Yes: a recently-deceased, gorgeous & wonderful & quirky 18-yr-old silver tabby DSH named Morgan who now resides under the backyard garden & on whose grave I still pour a little milk in the mornings even though I'm worried it will give a fungus to the plants. Also 2 young half-domesticated cats named Popeye and Puppy. I've had 2 wonderful dogs in the past and would like to get a German Shepherd if finances & yardspace allow.
Which hobbies absorb you the most?
Drinking coffee and staring outward, hiking & rehabilitating my knee, writing, friendships, photography, travel, wondering how to save the world from the morons, wondering how to save myself from cowardice, wondering what my fiance is thinking, gardening
How do you generate an income?
Writing tutor, freelance editor/tech editor/tech writer/grantwriter, pt freshman writing-teacher slave, and poet/poet-lecturer & flutist (not much income, but I'm proud of it). And I'm trying to find a real job as an editor or journalist. I'm smart & analytical & the best writer you'll ever meet & that's pretty much it. I hate 98% of freshmen & 100% of academic administrators. So that's why I'm trying to escape teaching as I've known it.
Are you always this negative?
No

Hi Dissident! Thanks--pleased to meet you too. I stand by my claim but you're welcome to test me on it. (If your criteria included "widely published" then of course I'd fail the test...so far . I'm not creative enough to think of any other test right now, but maybe you'll come up with something?)

Sounds like you're in the right place. Of all the types INTPs are the most eager to stop relying on the guidance of others for their lives. Non-comformity is our highest virtue, but it is often the bane of our elders because they think it means we think we know more than they do. Most of the time we don't think that in a general sense... just that we know more about what's right for us than they ever will. Prove to us that your advice is good and we'll accept it. Tell us its good and you can blow it out your tailpipe.

That being said I've started to realize just how immature I must have seemed to people who paid to attention. I could argue them into the ground, but I'd run for cover if I had to deal with something emotionally. Not that I would have accepted their help, but in retrospect it might have done me some good (then again I probably would have ignored it and done whatever I wanted anyway).

Are you interested in the books/lectures of John Polkinghorne? I just found out about him this summer after hearing a great interview by Krista Tippett on her American Public Radio show Speaking of Faith. Just started reading one of his earlier books, One World: The Interaction of Science and Theology.

(ps I haven't gotten far in the book as it's not as easy to read as the Lonely Planet Guide to Egypt, which has definitely been winning out lately, due to circumstances as well as fun factor and of course more pictures!)

John is delivering one of our talks! If you're in the UK, south of London, in January, come and hear him. The benefits are, you can continue reading your book on Egypt (sounds way more fun), listen to him vs reading him (way more inspiring) and meet ME (wow, even more fun)

WOW! I am so envious. Does that mean you've personally spoken with Polkinghorne?? Coool. Was it your idea to invite him? Have you read a lot of his stuff?

I appreciate the invitation. It's too bad that I live in California! Travel is always possible I like to think, but...probably not this year. Still I will keep it in mind!

(after all I never thought I'd get to go to Egypt & that did happen unexpectedly... I'd love to return to England; I spent 3.5 weeks in Oxford a few years ago, with 2 days in Edinburgh and 2 in London; not even remotely enough time anywhere, especially since my time in Oxford was, stupidly, largely spent in a classroom!)

p.s. Who else do you have for the lecture series?

I have asked some scientists from Cambridge and Oxford - Ard Louis, a young physicist and biologist; Katherine Blundell, an astrophysicist, Denis Alexander - a biologist and a couple of others. Should be interesting. John Polkinghorne is staying at my house and I haven't yet read any of his books! He was a personal recommendation but I guess I ought to read at least one.

Susan

Where are you from?

I grew up in Washington D.C., moved to Frostburg mayrland, then to Harrisburg P.A. (otherwise known as the land of denial), then moved to Albuquerque N.M. then moved to New Orleans (I left 2 1/2 years before the hurricane wrecked the place) and now I live in Tomball Texas.

How old are you?
My denial age is 25 but I have a bunch of people trying to tell me that I am pushing 40 but I don't have to believe them if I don't want to. La La la la la.

What's your gender?

female

How did you find out that you were INTP, or other type?

Over the years I have taken various versions of the Meyers-Briggs personality type test and every time it comes up INTP. Thus I can assume that I am an INTP.

How did you find out about this forum?

Google

Do you have a partner/lover?

I have been married for 16 years. Interestingly his personality is a PITB, (pain in the butt) but according to the Meyers-Briggs personality type indicator he is a ENTP.

Do you have any kids?

I have a boy who is 11 and probably another ENTP. And a daughter,7, who is probably an I-tp, (the N or S function shows up later in childhood)

Do you have any pets?

I have always wanted a cat but I am allergic to them so I got the most cat like dog I could find and named her Kitty, she is a German Shepherd Dog. I also have two Great Pyreenees Dogs and an old dog that smells bad. I think I have a wild Gulf Coast Ribbon snake living in the pond in my back yard.

Which hobbies absorb you the most?

Reading and internetting.

How do you generate an income?

I am currently a curator of large mammals (translation: housewife) in my former life I was a social worker, I hated social work

By the way I suppose I should introduce myself. I am new to the forum. I found this forum through Google. I look forward to conversing with people who supposedly think the way I do, it would be a nice refreshing change. Most of the women I know concern themselves with hair and makeup, and the way they and other people feel. I often choose the company of men because, most of the time, men are beautifully logical creatures. When you say to them "the sky is blue" guess what it means? Oh I can't wait for you to answer, I'll just tell you, it means that the sky is blue, not "are you still my friend?" Or, "your shoes don't match your outfit "(like I would care), or "I'm thinking something that you have to psychically guess". This is not to say that women are stupid and frivioulous, there are many logical thinking sensible women out there it is just that I always seem to find myself in the company of the frivioulous, illogical, getn touch with your feelings types. I'm not sure how this happens. I suppose that you can tell from this rather lengthy dissertation that I get a little frustrated with illogical people. I understand that illogical people need to be the way they are, but I also need to be the way I am.

Thanks for answering my question; it's so interesting to hear about your group's lecture series. I don't know about hijacking the thread or whether people mind; I'm new to the forum & haven't yet had time to explore all the features such as how we might privately message each other, but I'll look into that & let you know as soon as I can. I don't recognize the other names but just judging from the company I will google them to find out more. ...John Polkinghorne is staying at your house!! Oh my gosh! Wow! !!! That's really great. Well, here's an idea: I need a little extra incentive to read my Polkinghorne book, so if you like I can send you quotes, comments & thoughts about the book as I read it, & it will be almost as if you were reading it yourself, or at least save you some time?

"In both science and theology, I believe that we can affirm a stance of critical realism--called "critical" because the method of enquiry is subtle, with a delicate intertwining of experience and interpretation, and called "realism" because the investigation has the character of a process of discovery, rather than that of human construction. ... The fact that critical realism can be asserted of both science and theology, despite their very different subject material, implies a cousinly relationship between these two truth-seeking endeavors..." (John Polkinghorne, new Preface to One World, 2007 ed).

It's an unusual definition of "critical," but I find him a fairly analytical writer/thinker.

Also, here's the link to the Speaking of Faith radio interview broadcast which I really enjoyed & recommend (just click on "Listen Now": http://speakingoffaith.publicradio.o...lections.shtml )

Hope you enjoy!

I laughed so much at this. I sympathise. I think its all to do with evolutionary biology. In short women in groups are either extremely nasty (dare I say evil) or extremely silly or in most cases both. This is because women's survival in the tribe depended on them being accepted into the group. Women's brains are wired for social conformity. However, get them out of the group and you may find that the species reconnects with its brain. One on one they change their behaviour. You may actually find signs of intelligent life. I was lucky, I found a group of women who were wacky and non-conformist. They did talk about shoes but they also talked about other stuff - especially one to one. And I learned a lot from them. I did things with them I never would have done. For example, 15 years after meeting one of them I am now going out to Rio to address a conference on leadership. My friend is mad - for one thing she is addicted to shopping, and I mean addicted. but she's also intelligent. Give them a chance - some of them are truly parts of the intelligent human race but are significantly disadvantaged by their social wiring. Find one or two weirdos and you're in for a good time!

"In both science and theology, I believe that we can affirm a stance of critical realism--called "critical" because the method of enquiry is subtle, with a delicate intertwining of experience and interpretation, and called "realism" because the investigation has the character of a process of discovery, rather than that of human construction. ... The fact that critical realism can be asserted of both science and theology, despite their very different subject material, implies a cousinly relationship between these two truth-seeking endeavors..." This is great. It gives me a good incentive to read John's book along with you. Let me order it and we can read it together. By the way, I could do with some help on the 'come on a journey' thread~!! This critical realism is what I'm trying to experiment with. Be careful though, you could end up spending way too much time on here!

Tech support guy here

Click on the name of the user you want to send a message to (the one above the avatar) and a little menu will appear, then click on "send private message to..."

I hope that helps.
